C: Amare
PF: Joe
SF: Deng
SG: Wade
PG: Dragic

So they are playing Joe at PF??? Ok.....?

I guess that is how the Heat got Joe from the Hawks and Cavs, by promising him a starting spot for the rest of the season.

^Desperate times call for desperate measures...

But it's kind of brilliant if you think about it. At 240 pounds (he's almost the same size as Paul Millsap), JJ won't get completely abused in the paint. It allows them to play small ball effectively, particularly when Hassaun is playing the 5.

They can spread the floor and target the mismatch pretty easily. They are making do with what they have, and JJ will likely get to take over that SF position after Deng leaves this summer.

Riley (and Spoelstra) are pretty savvy.

Interesting note about ol' skin flint, Iso-Joe Johnson:

Ten players relinquished part of their salaries in buyout deals between the trade deadline and Tuesday’s de facto buyout deadline...

Joe Johnson signed a deal that gives him $2,585,519 less than what he gave up from his Nets contract to play in Miami. That’s the largest loss in terms of raw dollars among those recently doing buyouts, though Florida is another state without an income tax, so that’s a mitigating factor.

Joe Johnson, Nets (forfeited $3MM) — Signed with Heat (contract worth $414,481)
Here

JJ gave up a few million for the chance to catch on as a starter, long term with a contender...

For all the grief Joe Johnson gets, he hasn't missed the playoffs since 2007. His first season with the Hawks.

Early returns on JJ's addition to MIA are positive.

The team is 5-0 since he was added to the starting lineup as a small-ball PF. He's avg 14 ppg while shooting a red hot 60% from the field and 66% from three point range.

What a tremendous difference being on a talented team, in an effective offense, under capable coaches can make.

It'll be interesting to see how they fare heading into the playoffs...

Should Hawks bring back Iso-Joe for our playoff run?

Just saw a stat about MIA since JJ's addition:

During that period, Heat are #2 in scoring and #1 in FG% and 3-pt FG% with a 8-3 record.

JJ, as a member of the Heat, is avg 15 ppg on 55% shooting and 57% 3-pt shooting. Playing on a talented roster, in a well-designed offense under an established Head Coach has rejuvenated his career.

Heat are going to be a handful this postseason and JJ is a big reason why.

There is nothing sustainable about what he doing. He had a incredible hot steak earlier this year with the Nets too...and then when he came back down to earth it was a crash. I am so unworried about the Heat this post season although I kinda hope they can catch the Cavs and take them out.
