When does Brandon Knight suit up?

Post#1 » by LukasBMW » Tue Mar 8, 2016 2:59 am

Simple question.

I wanna know when we can see:

1. Either the bright future of a sharpshooting Knight/Booker backcourt

OR

2. Ball movement completely stop and the tank to go back to normal under his control

Ideally never since I don't like watching him play.

I REALLY LIKE BRANDON KNIGHT!

But he should sit the rest of the season.
SHAZAM!

Suns traded Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder and 4 1st round picks and a swap so some Vegas Bookies would like us.

Can we mandate that he should pass the ball all the time and then he can play?

Restrict him to 10 FGA in a game?

Nobody passed under Jeff. Basically every PG who played under him going back to Goran, IT, Ish, etc. had drops in assist % upon arriving and often then had increases upon leaving (I think Goran was the only one who didn't increase after leaving because he has bombed so badly in Miami).

That said, I agree he needs to be between 10-14 shots a game. If he did that, and if he played next to a real threat like Bledsoe and Booker after another year of development, he should be a lot more efficient. It is possible to fix shot selection. The Spurs manage to do it in an offseason. We never seem to have been able to do that with anyone. But the lineup Brandon was playing with, to his defense, was such abhorant trash offensively that efficiency was near impossible. I mean, when your lineup has Price, Tucker, Chandler, and a rookie Booker (albeit a good rookie), the entire defense doesn't need to focus on anybody but you.

The big question for me next year is - if we have three talented guards splitting minutes and we're getting meaningful offensive production from our frontcourt as well, will our backcourt be willing to expend the necessary energy on the defensive end to make us a top team? Bled did it for about the first dozen games, before, in my view, he ran out of ****s to give, seeing as how we weren't going anywhere this year and it was pretty obvious (big thanks to Keef, but Horny deserves his 'props' as well). Frankly, I don't know if Knight has it in him. Good defenders are dogs. Knight doesn't strike me as having the dog gene. Booker's got it, though he hasn't shown much defensively as yet.

Wouldn't you want him to suit up in a throwaway season so he pumps up his value so you can flip him?

Can't believe what's happened with PHX. =/

I'm only being half-serious. Obviously I want him to have some trade value but then I don't really want to see him play either. Can't have one without the other.

Honestly though, I hate watching him play.

Yup. But I want to give him one more chance.

If we insert him back into the lineup and he moves the ball and hits his shots, then we get a great preview of our next sharpshooting backcourt. (With both having the potential on paper to be 40% 3 point guys). It's a win.

But if he gets back into the lineup and ball movement stops and we see Len/Chandler/Booker all suffer from a decline in stats, then it helps our tank. So it's still a win in the fact that we go back to losing games and Knight inflates his stats so we can trade him on draft day.

Damn you guys really hate that guy. I'm willing to give him another season off the bench in a 6th man role.

Will you like him if he starts with Bledsoe and Booker comes off the bench or will you go all PJ Tucker on him?

I don't like the way he played here. But Knight is an intelligent person and has shown good character and effort while here. These are valuable things.

Maybe under the right system with less power he may thrive. He deserves that chance

If we can find that coach that seems to really get through to players (Carlisle, Stevens), then I think he can be useful if he can distribute more, turn over less, and shoot fewer long 2s. But the fact that a guy drafted in the top 8 was traded twice during his rookie contract makes me wonder.

However, I guess it's easy to forget how early it is in his career. At next year's trade deadline, Len and Goodwin will have been in the league as long as Knight had been when we acquired him.

Some of the posts in this thread are an embarassment for real Suns fans

I would be pissed. No way anyone should start over Booker. Tucker and Booker should never be in the same sentence.

Well in this case, Knight would be the Tucker, and Booker would be the Warren.
