UR Fight: March 20th, Phoenix, only on iPPV

Post#1 » by SDM » Fri Mar 11, 2016 11:57 am

So, some details have been worked out for this extravaganza.

In a boxing contest awarding $100K to the victor, Roy Jones Jr. will be facing a gentleman named Vyron Phillips.

Ken Shamrock had to bow out and has been replaced with Tank for his fight against Dan Severn. Should be an easy win for The Beast, but stranger things have happened.

Chael/Bisping in a grappling exhibition. Bisping is medically suspended, doesn't care, apparently able to get around it with it being an exhibition.

And on the pro wrestling side of things, a 5'1" guy with 348734578 reconstructed knees, takes on the guy who recently wrestled after suffering two concussions, now bringing his lifetime total to around 70--- it's Rey Mysterio vs. Kurt Angle.

This can all be yours from the confort of your living room for $11.99

If I were at a buddy's house, and they put this on the tv, I'd probably pay him $11.99 to turn it off.

Chael insists and Bisping hasn't said anything to the contrary, so that part is, at least.

Arizona Commission, so Tank will probably get a license against Severn, who should get approval as well. First time, I think, there's a main event MMA contest between two competitors with a combined age over 100.

I wonder how the boxing match got approved... IDK much about Roy Jones Jr, but this other guy's not even in the same league as him, right? Perhaps it's an exhibition because it's a winner take all prize?

Tank Abbott out of fight vs. Dan Severn, replacement being sought

So this happened.

Maybe the most interesting thing was that Bisping weighed in at 212 pounds. Sonnen 231.

I watched the entire thing.

We open with Shannon Ritch/Mavrick Harvey, complete with the announcers putting over Ritch as a monster killer, 5x world champion, he comes out with a variety of bagmen carrying his belts. Harvey rushed him when the fight started and got him caught in between the ropes and kept pummelling as the ref was trying to separate. Ritch won by submission.

Next was the Chael/Bisping cheque cashing/grappling event. Chael looked huge, like a pro wrestler.

There was also a prelim fight that they showed, featuring a guy who danced down to the cage and immediately opened the fight with the Matt Riddle spamming of air punches gif. He later upkicked a downed opponent and the ref stopped them immediately... to move them to the center of the awful because they were too close to the ropes. Blue corner wore Bellator gloves, red corner wore UFC gloves. You can't make this **** up.

Then Riff Raff rapped in the center of the ring with a couple hos for like 15-20 minutes, poorly, over a backing track that was buried way down in the mix.

RJJ toyed with the guy and then killed him when he felt like it.

Rampage called Kurt Angle a mothereffer when he tried to use a steel chair. Riff Raff runs onto the ring apron and distracts Angle, leading to the Mysterio win. Just such a weird **** thing.

Positives: JR and Rampage's chemistry, lots of mutual respect, you can tell. Sean Wheelock was great too. Commentary was excellent for all events, I thought.

The only thing semi-relevant to me on this card would have been Chael/Bisping but tbh Chael is by far the most boring grappler I've ever seen. I'm not exaggerating when I say that Jake Shields is much more exciting, when in comes to grappling tournaments anyway.

I didn't watch or read about their match but I can almost definitely tell you exactly how it went.

Brendan Schaub?

Well according to the MMA fighting it was 19 minutes and 40 seconds of hand fighting and playing to the crowd and then a takedown with 20 seconds left. I would have expected 20 minutes of lay and lay.

Nope. I'm actually surprised a takedown even occurred. Would have guessed a guard pull before a takedown tbh.

Right, Riff Raff has been lifting! Becoming a pro. I regret missing it for that reason.
Hi love, bye love, I will miss my love.

Fan estimate: 350-500 people in attendance with the vast majority being there for the wrestling match.
