Re: The Future is BRIGHT
I love the direction the team is going in. With the core guys mentioned in the op still developing and under team control for a while it's entirely possible we could see a contender in a few years.
It all depends on their development and their chemistry, but I think svg has put the franchise in a great position. We need some depth and some vets, but I think we have the makings of something special.

And it starts with Drummond. The only answer is Cousins and Anthony Davis. Next year Drummond will learn how to dominate the game in other ways. He's only 22 haha. I actually expect us to contend next season. We'll be better than Boston. The easiest thing to do is to add depth on the roster and we have enough money to do it plus a pick. We'll be good but we need experience and that's why this Playoffs are so important. It would be good for our development.

It really does start with Drummond. Reggie is probably the next most important piece, but Drummond is the guy that the team is built around.
He showed this year what he's capable of, but he's also shown a varying engagement or intensity. He doesn't bring the same high energy to every game. Once he can lock in every game, he'll be a legitimate star. He also needs to keep developing his post moves, improve his defensive awareness and of course his free throw shooting.
I'm not trying to s*** on him, but he has the ability to become one of the greats. I would hate for him to fall short of his potential.
He's on the right track and he's getting the right guys around him.

Re: The Future is BRIGHT
Need to add a quality vet probably 26-28 years of age who is comfortable being the bench commander...he's gotta be able to play good D at both guard spots AND manage the game well...
Need another bruiser like Baynes...but at PF so you can mix and match hitmen when needed
Then another wing that can D up 2 or 3 positions while being a bit of a Swiss Army knife on offense - Stanimal is likely to be this and could be even better!
So...yes the future is bright...but we're other probably 2 years and 2 quality role players away from killing teams

The most important piece we need to add is time and playoff experience over these next two years. Playoff experience has shown that young players develop faster after deep playoff runs. With a playoff apperance possible first round win Drummond and co will gain much needed experience going into next season (which I expect 48+ wins with a solid off-season)

Re: The Future is BRIGHT
How much brighter would our future be if we drafted Devin Booker instead of Stanley?? Dude is averaging 28 pts and 5 assists on 49% FG over the last 5 games and 20pts per game last 10...seems we missed out on a future superstar drafting on need instead of BPA.

Future superstar? Let's slow it down a little, he's playing on arguably the worst team in the league. I do like his shot though

Re: The Future is BRIGHT
maybe slow it a little but he's not just scoring due to volume of shots...he's been very efficient. I wonder how Stanley would fare in a similar situation if given the green light and #1 scoring option. I'd guess he'd score in the teens but probably would be inefficient. Im not knocking Stanley as Im a fan just trying to compare.

Re: The Future is BRIGHT
I agree with Moses. Booker was the right pick for us - local kid, wanted to be here too, silky smooth shot in what is a shooters league now. Stan blew this one. I wonder if we would have taken him if we knew we were going to get Mook, or if signing period opened prior to the draft.
Jackson
Booker
Morris
Harris
Drummond
Now THAT is a starting core worth getting excited about. KCP defending Booker in practices would make Devin that much tougher in games as well.

I know his jumper is better than Stanley's but if things were reversed, Booker comes off the bench here for 8 points while Stanley is featured on the worst team on the league and averages...13-18PPG?
You can't say a mistake was made until years down the road.

Booker is playing like I thought he would play offensively in year 2 or 3.... but I did not see the assists. I would have been stressed out but all right with SVG taking him over Stanley and Winslow, thinkin' he was a 15-20 mpg backup SG that could be one of the best shooters in the league by year 3 or 4 when he was ready to start(20+ppg on 40% shooting). Apparently he is already at that level in year 1.
Still way to early to project him above Stanley.

That's a great offensive lineup... horrible defensive core.
No thanks, I'll take KCP and Johnson shoring up my perimeter defense all day over Booker.
You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.

Re: The Future is BRIGHT
^What is defense in the NBA anymore? And Mook is a solid defender in his own right, and Booker's athleticism was shown to be good at the combine with measurables very comparable to KCP - no reason to write off Booker's defensive abilities.

Re: The Future is BRIGHT
Booker's potential is through the roof. He's already pretty good and it should not come as a shock that SVG said Booker was the next guy he'd take had he not taken Stanley, not Winslow. A lot of people said he was Jodie Meeks 2.0, and then there were a handful that some him as Klay 2.0 (myself included, but he may end up being better than that)
Stanley may very well end up being better though, his attitude/confidence is very rare among young players. Only time will tell.

yup, you're right. Stanley might end up being better and only time will tell BUT he certainly has some catching up to do.

Tobias and Jackson are our two best player, but we need good backup pf and pg.

We need to think more about to be a good competitive team instead of talk about rings. Curry is still 27.

If we could redraft...
Freak
Booker
Leonard
Harris
Drummond
That's the best team in the league during their primes if we had that starting lineup.
Wish the Pistons' front office had a crystal ball. Haha.
