Re: 2016 Draft and NCAA Conference Tourney Week
Wizards currently 2.5 games out of playoffs with 18 games to go, sitting in the 10th seed in the East. Lost 4 in a row.
Only 3.5 games up on Denver for 10th worst record in the league. If somehow that pick turns into the 10th pick (top 9 protected, right?), I won't say that would completely atone for trading the Lakers pick for Knight, but it will make up a ton of ground to put McD back in the +

If our pick fall out of the Top 2 might as well deal it for an unprotected one in the stacked 2017 class. Delayed gratification, but it would be worth it and we will likely have a more NBA ready prospect in shorter time than waiting 2-3 years at the least for Bender to even arrive stateside

Another fugly game from LSU and Simmons so far. Could he look like he cares less? I don't think so.
Such a head scratcher for me... Has he no competitive fire at all?

If Simmons was a once in a generation kinda player LSU would have been a shoo in. LSU needed to win out the SEC tourney to make it to March Madness, never was gunna happen doubt they accept the NIT bid.

Yes if Minn wants to trade up from 5-6. Looking ahead to 2017 it's looking promising. Jackson, Tatum & Giles would go top-6 right now.

I've been saying this all year. But I think any team should do this even with a top 2 pick. I'd rather get the #5 pick in the 17 draft than the #1 pick this year. Tatum, Giles, Jackson, Fox, Smith jr, Monk are guys just off the top of my head that have scary potential. I've said all year Simmons and Ingram wouldn't go top 3 or even top 5 in the 17 draft. I like Ingram the most in this years draft because of his potential, but Ingram is not even the Duke wing I liked the most in the last year. I would take Justise Winslow over him in a heartbeat. This draft is very very weak and if you can get a pick that has a good chance of being top 5 in 17, I think you take it and run

Sure I'd rather have top 5 next year than top 3 this year, but a general "trade for an unprotected 2017 pick" could end up the 20th pick. If for some reason some team projected to finish low next year were willing to give up an unprotected pick for a guy like Bender, Dunn, Brown, Ellenson or whoever, sure, but no team is going to do that.

Re: 2016 Draft and NCAA Conference Tourney Week
Trading a top 5 pick this season for a pick next season... Is a high risk situation that management will not agree to. Maybe if a player comes with it... It might be feasible.
I think McD will stick to the pick and has his eyes on a couple of players.
I still wouldnt rule out McD and Sarver trading that pick for a star as well.
Bender at pick 3 is trivial at this point in time....
Cant wait to see the measurements and work outs... He could actually prove he deserves that slot.

He was measured last year at 6'11.5" w/o shoes so it's probably safe to assume he'll be a legit natural 7 footer by the time he gets to the league. I don't really care about his strength atm cause he'd still be in HS.

I would love to get Bender and Korkmaz
Potential, bb IQ and good characters. Just what Suns need.
What people see in Skal? He average almost as many fouls as rebounds. Seems to have low bb IQ and is relatively old.
White non-athletic player= seems to have good bbiq
Black athletic player = seems to have low bbiq
This foolish thinking needs to stop
Id be super disappointed if we ended up with Bender and Korkmaz.
Bender is a total questionmark and averaging 4/2 for maccabi which as a team is as bad as it has ever been.
Porzingis does not even look all that good anymore.
Skal is still 19, hardly old. He was considered the #1 pick coming into the season, he outplayed Towns in sone youth matchups, he is 7' with a 7'2 wingspan and 35" vertical plus a beautiful jumper.
His last game he had 18/9/2 with 6 blocks in 25 minutes vs LSU.
He could be a better Myles Turner realistically.
A stretch 4 with a lot of rim protector potential.
He is an easy pick if he drops to the Wizards pick but that is a pipe dream.
Yes, I only think Skal has low bb IQ because he is black, despite his averages of 3 fouls, 1 turnover and 0,3 assist in 16 minutes that shows he has fantastic bb IQ.

Re: 2016 Draft and NCAA Conference Tourney Week
Any team willing to trade their 2017 pick unprotected for a pick this year is either already outside the top 10 or likely to be if their young guys develop. So we wouldn't be trading a top 5 pick this year for a top 5 next year. It would be more like a top 5 now for a pick in the 8-13 range next year. Might still be an ok trade, but there's too much uncertainty.
Also, we'll already would have our own pick in 2017 which has a good chance of being top 5. Going all-in in the 2017 draft is basically saying we don't plan on being competitive until 2020. Not that I'm necessarily against that, but that's so far away...

that post-game interview of coach Cal with Murray in the background was hilarious. and we just need one more kentucky guard to complete the set and finally try out a 5-guard lineup!

The only we ever trade a top 5 pick for another pick is if that other pick has reverse protection (other team keeps it until it falls into the top ____, for however many years that takes).
Let's be real, it isn't going to happen and for good reason. If we're moving a pick like that it has to be for a player. You can't risk a team improving in FA and having an unexpectedly good year the following year. Also, for all the **** people talk about regarding this draft, Bender, Dunn, and Brown are all very good prospects we'd be lucky to have. These aren't Anthony Bennett type players.

I like Murray as a player, but I just don't see how we can take him. Maybe if he fell to the WAS pick.
It's just that with our personnel, I don't see how he fits unless we think Booker can play significant minutes at the 1 and the 3. We'd probably have to move a PG (which I'm fine with), but even then given the size of Booker and Murray, both are much better suited for the 2 spot. I get some are super excited that Booker is playing some 1 and doing it serviceably, but making him play there in more than spot scenarios isn't maximizing his potential imo. The same with him playing the 3.
I don't think there's any way we take him with our pick. And even with WAS's, if he fell that far down, there should be a 4 or 5 at those spots with as much upside. I'd rather we go that direction than double down on 2 guard when we have a 19 year old monster there already and a 22 Euro player who projects to be an elite role player at that position coming over.

With Skal, the college game is too fast for him. That's obviously concerning, and is why he fouls a ton and his draft stock has plummetted. He probably should stay in college another year. But his skillset is elite, particularly for his size. Kentucky also could be using him better than they are now. Any team drafting him is looking beyond this year, and is drafting his skillset more than his college production. It's risky, but it does work out with some guys like that. Deandre Jordan, for instance, who couldn't even crack the starting lineup at A&M.

I agree with your first part but as for the guys you named, have you watched them lately? I know people always like to fall in love with the draft right in front of them but Dunn and Brown would be lucky to be lottery picks in most drafts.AtheJ415 wrote:1UPZ wrote:Trading a top 5 pick this season for a pick next season... Agreed I can see the Pels/Bucks coveting Dunn as their missing piece, both teams were disappointments coming off of playoff seasons looking to rebound which they likely will. We won't have an abundance of suitors, knowing our intentions
