Re: What's Devin Booker's ceiling?
I'm not going to put a ceiling on anyone - cause i had no clue Steph would be MVP (and probably b2b MVP caliber). But i don't see what would hold back Booker from being one of the best players in the league at his peak. He's highly skilled, got a great work ethic, smarts, and composure.. wants to be great, not afraid. He looks like a star to me. Hopefully the PHX org is getting their **** together and he can develop in a great environment.

Your boy got embarrassed on D (Splash Bros 55 on 65% TS%) , he hit exactly 0-5 from deep, and despite being up by 10 with 10 seconds to go in the 3rd quarter, I easily called your loss.

Wait, you called the Suns losing to the Warrior? OH MY GOD WHAT A FREAKING GENIUS!!!
Dude message me you number right now, we're gonna have a beer and your gonna tell me the lottery powerball numbers for next month!
Holy crap, I can't believe you guessed it right that the 3rd worst team in the league Suns would lose to the best team in the league Warriors!
My god, with that kind of foresight, I'm starting to think that you may be right about Booker too and that he won't be anything special either!
Bro, I'm serious, do you do fortune telling for a living or anything? You'd easily be making more money than everyone on real GM times two if you did.

Re: What's Devin Booker's ceiling?
Don't understand why people are criticising projections of Suns fans this much. What does FG% or season averages have to do with anything when Booker just started getting consistent minutes to produce after December. His averages as a starter are 17-3-3 with %42FG and %34 behind the arc, in one of the most talent depleted teams in that stretch. Not eye popping but definitely satisfactory, he is just starting to show some other areas he has in his game as well.
Are we looking at wins to evaluate rookies now? How many games does rookies win on their own in this league? I guess everyone should stop talking about Towns too, his team record sucks compared to talent level he has around him.
Again, potential is a very subjective entity for player assessment. There really isn't any point to overly criticise someone for over projecting a 19 year old starter's potential. It should just tell you how high the Suns are on him, and they have big plans with him and Alex Len core, which should be exciting, and I think Booker deserves the attention he gets from Suns organisation with what he's done so far.
I am a big fan of Alex Len too. Hopefully good times will come back to Phoenix - LAL rivalry

plus, how does a 6'6 guard play 40 minutes and get zero rebounds?
0 rebs?
that kind of will to win (or LACK there OF) probably means booker belongs in the D league if you want to be nuanced about it in my opinion that is.

You have to be kidding.
Surely?
I mean, you seriously think a guy going rebound-less means a lack of will to win? And D League?
There should be a D League forum that brainless posts like this get sent to...

Calm down. He played the best team in the league. What did you expect in his rookie year? Get over yourself.

Alvin adams, and saint's posts are sarcastic on purpose because there's a poster that wants to rain on the Booker party/parade, aka the first thing that Suns fans have going for us in a very long time.

Re: What's Devin Booker's ceiling?
Saw the game tonight I was impressed by his ability to get into the paint and kick it out. His teammates were hitting their jumpers which is where he racked up most his assists. He's not the most athletic but surprisingly quick. Good finisher at the rim. I like the way he runs the pick n roll, very patient. He took a couple bad shots that were heavily contested, he needs to learn to pump fake(Klay got him with the pump fake fly by a couple of times so he should learn). He was a non factor in the fourth, I would of liked to see him demand the rock when the game was on the line, show that clutch bad mofo gene that a lot of top guards have. But he's got a lot of time to show if he's got that. Defense was hard to judge cuz Warriors make everyone look bad on defense. Also he looks 6'5 not 6'6 but i could be wrong.
Overall i'm definitely impressed. He'd definitely be a top 5 pick if the draft was redone. Suns got a steal for sure.

more ron mercer than ray allen
He had 11 assists and zero turnovers and the Suns offense went to **** when he picked up his 5th foul and had to sit out.
He made an impact on the game despite shooting poorly.

Re: What's Devin Booker's ceiling?
I've liked what I've seen of booker so far, granted only a handful of times and mostly against the dubz. Can definitely play either back court position. I think he has potential to be one of the best 2 guards in the league. Just needs to learn the nuances of nba defense. Great looking rookie class this year. Really like the Suns roster in the next few years if they keep adding talent through draft and FA.

We knew the shooting would be there but the kid plays the pick and roll like a veteran. He's the best passer on the team, and he's not even a point guard.

To be fair, Klay is still improving as well. Much improved ability to create in the paint this year and at getting to the line when the team needs it. One reason GS is threatening the record is that Steph, Klay and Green have all had break out level improvement this year. Add to that Ezeli showing some upside and Bogut dropping 10+ lbs and looking spry again and they get scary. Even Barnes and Rush were better, until Barnes seemed to regress after his injury.
On topic, after seeing him last night, this kid has superstar potential I agree. I have not watched him that much this year, I admit though.

So part one of this post is "everyone quit acting like a bunch of irritating children." Seriously. Have a civil conversation or leave this thread, because this is just tiresome. Contribute, or be quiet. Do not be a pest to your fellow posters, or you will be gone.
As to the actual topic...
It's wicked-early to say ANYTHING about Booker. He was a late lotto selection, he's 19 years old, and was playing under 20 mpg for like the first 30 games of the season. Since then, his 3 has vanished but he's showing some impressive passing acumen and sufficient size/athletic ability to be of interest. He's not handling the increased load well as a shooter; he's been WAAAAAY worse since he became a starter, but he's 19 and now he's getting a chance to show the breadth of his game a little more, which is maybe more important. Also, it is worth noting that he was in the .200 range in terms of draw rate before the new year. Since then, closer to .33.
Anyway, he's a teenager who was thrust mid-season into a more prominent role with more than 50% of then minutes load he was playing over the first half of the season. It was always gonna be rocky. LEBRON was a terrible scorer as a rook, as were Durant and Melo. They got slapped into volume roles and struggled. Booker is a lower-tier talent, so this isn't surprising, but he HAS been showing various signs of promise. As long as you're not expecting Jordan 2.0, I'd be reasonably excited at this stage. We'll see what his sophomore season brings in terms of adaptation and evolution, but he's flashing enough that at least for a teenage rookie, he looks pretty interesting.
