we have rookies, min contract vets and d-leaguers being huge contributors on a playoff team. unreal.
In Riley I Trust!
Now if only the coach would have figured out what he inadvertently realized we'd be #2 behind the Cavs.
well i'll give spo credit. he's been saying since end of last year that this is how the team should play. his problem is his inability to get the veterans to buy in.

17.2 pts, 9.9 reb, 2.4 ast, 1.3 stl in 35 minutes. (49% fg and 30% from three)
Bosh: 19.1 pts, 7.4 reb, 2.4 ast, 0.7 stl in 33.5 minutes. (47% fg and 36.5% from three)
we'll just have to settle for Durant

I love Deng at PF, But come on.
It's pretty amazing how huge an impact moving him from SF to PF had. He looked so bad at SF, such a bad fit too.
Now he looks like almost a perfect fit, even producing above his talent level (putting up Bosh type numbers).
I was dead sure he was gone this summer, but now it totally flipped - unless we can get Durant there's no other player I can think of that would be a real upgrade over Deng at PF.
But man if we upgrade to Durant in 2016 or 2017?
He's like a super-Deng on cocaine, we'll murder team.
Winslow
Durant
Whiteside
perfect front court balance.

and that's a significant issue resulting in wasting over half of our season. I believe we would be sitting @ #2 or #3 rather than struggling to reach the damn Boston Celtics
Spo won't have my support until we win a Championship and his gonna need alot of help w/ that. Lebron is no longer here to bail him out.

if we had made these adjustments earlier we'd be much better vs top teams. Wich ultimately means Spo should have implemented a faster offense, given Deng and Winslow more opportunities, given Dragic the keys to run the team, shared the ball from the get go. The failure on Spo's behalf has been highly detrimental to the team. He has alot of making up to do.

In fairness, Dragic was not in condition to be handed the keys at the beginning of the season, if you remember correctly. On top of that, you don't start off playing faster when two of your three best players are Bosh and Whiteside. That's where you do slow it down and try to take advantage of teams with your size. This board would have been outraged if we'd started the season with Whiteside or Bosh coming off the bench so we could go faster...

i remember Dragic was out of shape, yes. The point is the earlier Spo realizing or at least have the balls to do what he felt had to be done rather than being too afraid to do so may have helped this team significantly, considering how well we've been playing doing the exact thing he wanted to do in the first place.
and it's not just about Dragic.....it's also about giving players more freedom, such as Deng & Winslow. Giving players more trust w/ opportunities - wich is exactly part of the adjustments that have made us more consistent.
As a result of this failure reg season is almost done, wasting half a season. Now we're still trying to find our way instead of slowly perfecting things. This to me is just not good enough, considering we are trying to land KD and have championship ambitions before Riley & Wade retires.

Our 6-14 includes OT losses to Memphis and Toronto and two losses to GSW that we were right in for most of the game, so we shouldn't feel too bad. We have beaten Cavs and Toronto and hung with Warriors.

Said early in the season that Deng's only valuable position might be at the 4, but he's been more than just good.
I'd still trade him for Thee Lord Voldermort in a half-second but that ship has sailed, if we part with Deng just so Wade can share his check with Joe this offseason I'm going to bite somebody. Going to be interesting to see what type of payper Deng draws this offseason, anyhow

So are we trading Bosh or hoping he never comes back?
Or are we telling Whiteside he's coming off the bench for several years to come.
Deng went from placeholder for a couple seasons to now "if we part with Deng..."

I've always liked deng a high iq player. I think riles will try to keep him on in hopes he joins the staff down the road. Riles is no fool. If we have one vet carry like we always seem to do it will be deng.
1. Herro 2. Bol Bol 3. Seko 4. Bruno

Looking at the numbers, the absolute best we can hope for next year is simply keeping the current team minus Mcbob, and bringing in a few new rookies/vet minimum guys.
We should be able to keep Whiteside, Wade, JJ and Deng, but we'll have to trade Mcbob and we won't be able to add anyone else besides rookies/vets.
I'm fine with that. sometimes you don't need big changes. Just continue to build chemistry, and hope the all our young pieces keep progressing - taking the team to the next level.
Then in 2017, If Bosh doesn't come back - we could be in play for Durant. We should be able to offer him his max while offering a exciting team for him to join.

Sit down before you hurt yourself jumping to conclusions.
If we find better than Deng for a reasonable price then we should go for it, not drop him for Joe.
Bosh, Deng can play the 4 on or off the bench. Whiteside, Bosh can play the 5 off or on the bench.
Simply, whatever's the best for the team in a reasonable accommodation
Are we done arguing about nonsense?

Take away spacing and see how much Deng can cut.
And the tag of "starter" matters to players.

Deng was a great 4 before Joe or Jrich starting doing anything, even before the Allstar break. In fact he was better before Joe got here.
Circumstances vented, we're going to have to choose between who starts and who doesn't. Just the way it is, if we can get everyone to start then great.

If that's the case then we are not true contenders next year. Just an improved team w/ better chemistry but not a team that will be able to take out who ever comes out from the West.
If we had prime Wade it would be a totally different story - we'd take the East NO DOUBT and take who ever comes out of the West to 7 games and possibly win the title!
Riles master plan is this offseason leading in preparation for a 16-17 season Championship surge. He's also let it be known prior to retirement that he is in win now mode - wich indicates that the moves he makes in the next couple of seasons may be his last so it will be hihgly significant. You'd have to think he is going to try and do something extremely BIG! I'm not a numbers guy, never have been but i believe if Riles is able to sign a big name that he'll make it work.
As much as i love our current team, i believe it's not enough. We need a big move that will put us over the top.
