Is signing Howard a bad thing?
I know ALOT of fans are aginst making a play for Dwight Howard but is anyone in favour of a homecoming?
I for one would love Dwight Howard back. (just not for max deal). But if Howard was open to a return ala Lebron style then would it be a bad thing?
For one he would atract other stars at teaming up with him to make a run at finals in the east. Lets just say for instance we signed him and Conley/Parsons. then we imediately become contenders in the east again. Along with our young core plus pick and whatever a trade for VUC and maybe dipo would bring.

Ask yourself this one question: Is he really the guy you want mentoring our young guys?

Re: Is signing Howard a bad thing?
He wants a max contract, so yes signing him is a bad thing.
If we would sign a contract more on par with his current play then sure. He isn't an elite player anymore but he is still pretty darn good in areas we really need help.

$8-10mil/3-4yr being a defense-rebounding player, i could live with.
But you are wrong that he would attract other stars. He is a chump that other stars do not want to play with. There is a reason it was Lebron/Wade/Bosh, CP3/Melo, that Durant/WB didnt reach out to him. other stars just do not want to play with him. plus, you never know when he will be injured and leave a hole in your lineup.

yeah no thanks. He isn't the same guy he once was. I have no interest in paying that much money for and aging and often injured big man and that bridge has been burnt to a crisp. Yeah we have a different Gm and players but still I don't think this is anything like Lebron returning to Cleveland. Plus I don't think he helps us. I would rather just hold onto that money if that is what we have to resort to and use that money in 2017.

Re: Is signing Howard a bad thing?
Like a few others have already mentioned - he wants a max, he isn't worth it, but for a very decent price (which won't happen) I could see management considering it (I definitely would NOT).
In the end, his terrible personality is the ultimate no for me around our young guys. Aaron, Elfrid, Mario, Victor, and Nik are all good guys. I understand you need to have a little "dawg" in you in the NBA, but Dwight is a straight up b***h at this point.
No from me.
Do you really remember how he did us? Watch this video.

Re: Is signing Howard a bad thing?
I posted this in another thread, but ultimate revenge wold be to pull off the Durant/Conley max combo and then have Dwight sign here as a ring chaser with a short term deal. I just don't see him getting the payday he is expecting from anyone. You bring him in as a third wheel who has to submit to a guy like Durant and it's over. We have a guy back here who is in no position to be a leader now and he has to get on board with the big dog.
It would be sweet Karma, plus our team would be a title contender. Only real scenario I would be down with seeing him back though. If he comes back and tries to be a leader, the team is ruined.

Re: Is signing Howard a bad thing?
He would have to get a nice dose of reality first. He isn't going to get the money he wants. He isn't going to be the number 1 option.
Ultimately if the situation was right. No it wouldn't be a bad thing.

Re: Is signing Howard a bad thing?
I could understand if we viewed him as the final piece to a championship-contending puzzle, but he would likely be a declining, distracting, big-contract piece to a make-the-playoffs-and-lose puzzle.
There's simply too much baggage there. We haven't heard any indications from Howard that he has interest in Orlando, either.
For the most part, I agree. I just don't see it happening.

Re: Is signing Howard a bad thing?
If he could be our Alonzo Mourning to the Heat kind of player then maybe but his character and media distraction isnt worth it. I bet fo laughs at the idea of beinging him back.

Dwight has never been known to have a "terrible personality". He has been known to be very immature. These are far from the same thing. This meant he struggled to co-exist with the ultra intense Kobe (who does have a terrible personality according to former teammates and coaches). This is no different than another immature big man in Shaq but Shaq played in his prime with a prime Kobe while Dwight played with a washed up Kobe. Winning cures all.
Do I want Dwight as a mentor on this team? Absolutely not but who says every player must fill that role?
If we could grab Mike Conley to be that leader and convince Dwight to take a realistic contract then you would be a fool to pass.

Re: Is signing Howard a bad thing?
OT: Something I picked up from listening to Zach Lowe's recent podcast with Daryl Morey was how disappointed Morey was at how certain trade discussions always seemed to be leaked from the Rockets. He made reference to guys in and around our team.
As the conversation was related to the Howard trade rumours around the deadline, I took it to mean that Dan Fegan was the chief leaker.
It therefore interests me that Howard has since fired Fegan as his agent. Has he started to see sense? Highly unlikely.
Anyway back on-topic: no thanks to Dwight. Some undoubtedly great memories but the past is the past.

Re: Is signing Howard a bad thing?
It I would take Dwight if
- He agreed to a respectable deal, 3 40M with a team option after year 2
- We had a deal in place for Vucevic to be traded, either up to top 3 (depending on lottery slot) for a sign and trade for someone like Horford and a pick
- If we can a suitable back up center suck as Jason Smith returning on a good deal
Payton
Hezonja/Oladipo
Top 3 pick/Fournier
Gordon
Howard/Smith

Re: Is signing Howard a bad thing?
I can't see Dwight returning. This is his last big contract, so if he can't get the money he wants, he'll likely chase a ring. We don't have anyone for him to come and join, like Bosh/Wade, or Melo, or Lillard, etc, and I can't imagine us wanting to hand a max over to him.

There is a lot of talk about New York but I hadn't thought of Portland. Yeah, that could be a nice landing spot for him.
