After winning months in both November and December, Orlando might win only one game in the month of January. OUCH!

With Skiles stating that Orlando needs to win 20 of the next 30 games for the team to make the playoff, that is his obvious expectation that the Magic need 43 wins for entry to the second season.

Anyhow:
Overall we can see that the team has clearly separated fro the three previous teams:

In all the past years, after the ASW the Magic leveled out until about game 60. That means something like a 5-5 record over the next 10 for they year's Magic. Going into a stretch run at 28-34 is a strong position for this team.

Winning percentage wise if they continue the current pace they would win 36 games which right around what the majority of people had them at before the season started. I think I had them at 38.

We have to pick the defense back up to what it was at the start of the season.

What is the significance of starting that chart at January?

I just wanted to see how we rebounded from the 4 terrible January records we had.

It's weird that our best year since Dwight had our worst January.

The January/Feb combo this season has been really bad, I think 2nd worse all together for the two months.

It looks like "youth" set in at about game 20. Indeed it is the games #20 - #40 where the total melt down occurred.

So we should be happy, but be cautious in our enthusiasm.

Several things are becoming apparent.

1) Skiles has more than the incremental improvements of Vaughn.
2) The Magic have a 4-season run of losses from games 30-50. Odd! and ....
3) ... that is followed by a 4-season plateau, which I find even more odd.

4) What comes next, based on the last 3 seasons, is another collapse in record. Let's see if Skiles can mitigate against this "expected" collapse.

A 31-51 record is more than a ten-game W-minus-L improvement (and "only" a -20 W/L record). Overall this season has been very successful, even if our emotions are not reflecting the reality of growth.

From today's O-Sen:
The Magic are 4-11 on the second nights of back-to-backs this season.

If Orlando was to have won 40% ofd these games, that would be 2 more wins right there. Each of these little goals lead to wins. Coach Skiles can focus on such small gins that collectively add up to a winning team next year.

Unfortunately the Magic's record over these last years exactly predicted the timing of this losing streak :(

And just like the last years, this mini-losing streak ended on cue.

The Magic is now just at the edges of going -10 in W/L for the season. A 3-2 record takes Orlando to that level.

78 Wed, Apr 6, 2016 Detroit Pistons
79 Fri, Apr 8, 2016 Miami Heat
80 Sun, Apr 10, 2016 @ Miami Heat
81 Mon, Apr 11, 2016 Milwaukee Bucks
82 Wed, Apr 13, 2016 @ Charlotte Hornets

A 3-2 record looks doable. A split with the Heat. And 2-1 in the other three is a realistic goal to close out the season.
This would be an incredible 11 game improvement over last season!
What I see is that the yearly losing streak pre-all star week was blunted. And the mini-losing streak after the rebound from losing-streak-1 was also cut short. If Coach Skiles eliminates these two annual losing streaks, the team is already a 41-win squad.

So far the Magic's offense has been ok, as the team is 7th in the East in scoring. Orlando lost its season on defense. There the Magic is currently a woeful 12th in the East. (averaging to 10th in scoring differential).

The off-season will undoubtably include the players focusing on individual defensive drills and the pre-season might be only about team defense.

Here's the final comparison. Note that Orlando had a mini-losing streak to close out the last three seasons and this year that run was broken.
