I'm a travelling magician. It's a rough gig at the best of times, but this year has been especially difficult for me. There's a small group of established magicians that I run into on my travels and although we are friendly, there's always a sense of competition among the group due to our niche skills and a limited amount of venues and bookings that we receive regularly. A couple of the newcomers to the scene are younger and flashier than myself and I have spent a lot of time trying out new, edgier illusions. It used to be about the sheer act of mesmerizing the audience and captivating their minds. Nowadays, the younger "magicians" use more gimmicks and a few have resorted to dressing like Chippendale dancers and incorporating too much sex into the shows, cheapening the art of magic. This has been wearing on me and until recently, I'll admit, as I was struggling immensely with where to go from here. About 2 months ago, something clicked and I invented a new illusion that has catapulted me into the spotlight again and thus, increased my demand ten-fold. It has been a good 8 years since I have had this many requests for shows and private events, so my time has been taken up with all of the preparations and international flights. When you're flying across the world regularly, it gets taxing to say the least. I also have regular shows in Las Vegas at the Mirage hotel. It's a nice gig, especially when they reserve the lanai suite for me any time I'm in town. That being said, I've gotten used to the lessened workload over the last decade as my profession has faded. As far as I'm concerned, the glory days were gone with the deaths of Doug Henning and Dai Vernon. Those men could entertain....

Anyway, I'm getting off track here. I fully expect that the hype will plateau soon, leaving me more time for the smaller things in life. I thank everyone for their patience in this manner and look forward to the start of the season.

So basically, I'm in for this year, but this will be my last. It's up to Mike whether he wants your "friend" to take over my team at that point.
