Hassan free throws are a huge factor going forward. huge.

In the playoffs a lot of his lay-up and dunks would have been converted to FT, because teams take away easy baskets.

But now that's he's (amazingly, and pretty much unprecedentedly) has become a 80% FT shooter suddenly at age 26, he will punish teams for fouling, and as a result will be guarded less physically. Which just means most dunks.

Whoever helped him changed is FT form deserves a raise, and Hassan deserves a ton of credit for not getting discouraged and for keep working hard and improving one of his biggest weaknesses.

Shaq, D.Jordan Drummond, and a lot of other good bigs never made that improvement he made despite having more years to work on it.

Riley, on where Whiteside was last year to now, in 12 months: "I've never been around that kind of turnaround. We've had some players that we've opened our eyes up on but I think what Hassan did, last year and what he's doing now, his level of play now, it's just all about more experience, more experience, more reps, understanding how important he is to us.

"In my 50 years in the NBA, I've never seen that kind of phenomenon. I know that's hurting me right now as far as his free agency goes, complimenting him. But he's really grown a lot."

Sounds like a max offer

Sounds like a max offer

Pat prob had his speech al ready to tame down that price this off season, based on pre Allstar performance. Then hes had this turnaround, and management starts hearing the dollar signs cling cling cling, every game getting louder.

Just give Hassan whatever it takes to keep him.

He is a blocking and rebounding juggernaut who is developing a shot which is going to make him THE UNSTOPPABLE PLAYER in the league.

Man that guy's voice made me sleepy.

We tend to associate BB IQ with court vision and passing, those happen to be his biggest current weaknesses so that's where it comes from IMO (also off court issues didn't help).

But being a true defensive anchor definitely requires high IQ too, and that's the transformation he's going through - from a great shot blocker (that chases some blocks to the detriment of the overall defense) - to a more poised, selective, mature defender. All the metrics are showing just that - communicating more, picking his spots, making an effort to come out to shooters, avoiding silly fouls - his defensive impact is growing as the season progress, which leads to the second point - experience is a huge factor here. he did play dumb at times early on but a big part of it seems to be simple lack of reps. With more and more games against all kinds of opponents, he's adjusting. It's true on offense too, he's not forcing as much as he used too, learning to simply pass out when crowded and re-position. His rebounding talent is just great instincts combined with great physical tools and great hands, Weather that's defined "high IQ" is another question, in any case it's not something you can be taught, he's a natural.

Still room to improve, but definitely on right track, just needs more games under his belt and keep doing work with game tapes.

With 20 teams out there being capable of offering the Max, Miami has to offer the max to keep him.

Where did Rock Hardy go with his stats that he was convinced showed that Hassan only made negative impact?

Hassan has been a TOP 5 player since ASB. 3rd in PER (Curry, CP3) and 4th in Win Shares (CP3, Lowry, Curry). Cousins fills up the stat sheet but he is inefficient and turns the ball over a ton. He's not the type that can carry a team as a #1 option. Hassan's advanced numbers have been better since ASB.

Damnit, these people need to keep quiet:

Yesterday on Zaslow, Jared Zerling was on discussing the article he wrote where he interviewed Whiteside about his shot blocking prowess and he said, "he knows he's going to get paid this summer... [and then he mumbled something]... 14 or 15 million a year.." I wouldn't get my hopes up that much, but I hope that means Whiteside will stay with the Heat for less than the max.

No thats what they are hoping for but no way that happens.

One of the biggest problems to Whiteside selecting us is we already have a Max Franchise player in Bosh. When Bosh comes back this season Whiteside playing time will go down. Also Bosh is best at Center so there is a huge problem. Then at end of game situations it will be Bosh on the court while Whiteside is on the bench. All of these things will play a big role in what team Whiteside decides.
