I've been focusing on Otto those last few games because I've seen a lot of 'trade Otto, he is not really good' talks, which is IMO a bit too early for 23 y.o. kid who plays his - effectively - second season in the NBA, first as a starter.
I've seen a lot of good things that Otto can bring up to the table. He is efficient, moves well, rebounds and scores. Or course he ain't no Kawhi at this point but he is darn good! I can only imagine where his ceiling is but I believe it's much higher than most of the posters here and on BF thinks.

I'm closer to think that he might be better than BB in the coming years.

krii, I haven't been seeing the trade Otto comments (well, not since his rookie season)... where are you seeing them? Am I missing it here? Or is that on another board?

Quite a few posters on BulletsForever and in here wanted to include him in different trades, such as DMC/Horford talks. I am not saying it's everyone, especially after such discussion on last page ;-) but in fact, some people are under-appreciating what Otto can be in the future and what he is for this team right now.

This time last year there were plenty of people here down on Porter. After the playoffs last year that talk pretty much died. Of course in the trade thread you see a lot of stuff that doesn't make much sense.

I think he's the most underrated Wizard, among the most underrated NBA players currently. His contributions across the traditional and advanced stat lines are impressive. For our eye-test acolytes, the guy is always in the right place at the right time. Given his age, I would rank Otto as our #2 asset behind John Wall.

Otto Porter is a top 10 SF. Thoughts?

Ah, okay. I would do a Horford for Porter swap - well if he was going to sign a long-term contract. Otto for Boogie straight up as well.

Yeah, that's the difference ;-) I believe that Otto's value in the coming years will be much higher than it is right now. Of course DMC or Horford are great players but I see bright future with Otto on the board.

I mean ... of course DMC or Horford in here would be fantastic, each of them could create probably the best big combo in the league (DMC or Horford/Gortat/Morris/Nene?). It's a great scenario indeed ... but I feel Otto have star potential and he might explode one day. I'd rather keep Porter on board.

Wow. Okay, I understand the irrational fanatic in you - but to whine about posters that would trade them for those two - well...

hehehe - fair enough.

fan or fanatic (n.) A person marked or motivated by an extreme, unreasoning enthusiasm, as for a cause.

This would put you in the OttoFan category.

Haha true, if only I'd fit in there (winter in England is terrible, no chance to do any sports ;-) ).

At least I'll be one of the first who is eligible to say "I WAS RIGHT!' right after his All-NBA selection ;-)

Boxscoregeeks has him #6 in the league. IMO he's our best player.

LOL c'mon. How in hell is he anywhere close to being the Wziards best player? I mean, you're entitled to your opinion, but it's a silly one. Reminds me of another guy on another board who said Nene was the Wizards best player.

Otto to me is like a smaller Giannas...once he gets comfortable he's going to be exceptional...
I can't wait to see him in the playoffs

We're talking about a kid averaging 11 and 5. He's a role player. He is not better than John Wall, not in a million years, regardless of WP or TS. I don't even think he's better than Gortat.

Now, if you wanted to make the claim that he's better than Beal, which would get you completely flamed on any other board, I would agree with you.

Nonono - not best player. If you pushed Otto's usage rate up to John's, I think Porter's stats would suffer immensely. He plays smart, picks his spots. Being the focal point of an offense would not suit his game well. He's more like a #3 / #2 option kinda guy, on a good team and on a decent team respectively.

I don't think there's any statistical or game-watching argument could logically fall in favor of Beal over Porter. It's not really close. The only way Beal > Porter is "perception" - i.e. hype, or some other ill-informed opinion. Porter > Beal hands down at this point. Maybe you could argue Beal > Porter on potential. I'd have to give that one some serious thought, but Beal's consistent lack of improvement YOY is a sticking point.

Fun fact that I didn't know until tonight: friends and family refer to Otto as "Bubba" - which I'm not sure fits. I favor the "O__o!!!!" i.e. "Ahh-ohh!!!" approach we use at home. Might even name our next dog Otto.

He's not our best player yet but he can get to where it will be argued like gortat...he's been backup to 2 title winning small forwards and u can see how it improved his game...he has a 55% t/s...
our whole team jus started back playing defense(except oubre)...so u can't fault him there...
But overall I think he's going to be worth the pick..he keeps improving on his shooting he can be a nic batum but better

Beal is a better scorer and shooter than Otto. Probably a better defender too. Otto is a better passer and rebounder, and better at scoring by moving off the ball and cleaning up garbage buckets. Otto's ability to score in abnormally high volume on low usage is very interesting. We don't have to run plays for him in order for him to get his.

Otto has the potential to be a great defender, but right now he's pretty rough. He gets lost too much and does have some trouble working through screens. He's probably one of our most common points of failure given the minutes he plays. The length and range are special though, and he has solid instincts and a good motor. Beal is much stronger and more aggressive, he can be a junk yard dog when he's locked in and guarding the ball. But Otto has more potential because of his length. He can be a legitimate rim protector and pass lane thief once he learns when and how to free lance.

One last thing, Otto is very inconsistent right now. As inconsistent as Beal can be, Otto is much more so. He's been giving us a stretch of quality games lately, but there was a much longer stretch where he was totally invisible before this. Whether or not he's engaged in the game is the number one thing I look for with Otto right now. Beal has progressed beyond the point where that's still a concern with him.

Beal has been an awful defender this year. I'm mean really, really bad. His DRtg is 108. He ranks 86th in ESPN's DRPM out of 97 shooting guards. His DRtg for his career stinks too: 106

I don't think there's any question that Porter has been a better defender. Porter has his flaws, most notably, he can't hold his position against bigger guys like Carmelo Anthony. But he's a decent on-the-ball defender in general, and he's a very good help defender who knows how to get into passing lanes and rotate into the lane to challenge penetration. Porter ranks 13th among 78 small forwards in DRPM, and 5th among small forwards who average 30 or more minutes per game.
