How to use the search function?

Post#1 » by TKainZero » Fri Mar 25, 2016 2:02 am

I wanted to search for an old thread from the preseason, however, when I try and use the search function, it says, I do not have permission to use the search function.

Can I get permission please?

To my knowledge, the search function remains disabled, and that message is pretty universal.

For what reason?
Thankfully, I was able to click on my profile, and search my own posts, which was able to allow me to find 2 offseason threads from last summer...

But why is the search function disabled?
And furthermore...
Why do people get mad at people for making duplicate topics when there is no search function to cross check?

Some parts of the search function work as I can search my own posts through my profile, why are the greater search functions disabled? $$$?

IIRC, it was that the search function was putting some serious strain on the server, but don't quote me. dream can come in and explain that one, now that I've successfully run a delay action :D But like I said, if memory serves, the search function was disabled because the queries were putting a heavy load on the server and slowing everything down. Last I recall, the dev team was looking into it, but have had bigger problems trying to ensure quality board performance for regular browsing the last little while, and have been hard at work seeing to that as first priority.

Why do people get mad at people for making duplicate topics when there is no search function to cross check?

Depends on how old the the topic is. There's a balance there. If it's on the first or second page, then yeah, don't be lazy and go looking just to be sure. If it's 6 or 7 pages back and there's no stickied index thread on that board, then yeah, no one should be griping at you. If it's several months old, some of the boards don't even want you bumping that anyway.

Google is pretty good for tracking down old posts and threads when you limit the search to RealGM forums. If you've got some strong keywords it shouldn't be too hard to track down what you're after, and likely much quicker than clicking through pages your own posts
