Nobody is going to freeze him out of games or not be his friend or fight him—he's a rich, young, potential superstar. Nobody is going to risk harming their career (and millions of dollars) to "have Nick's back." End of the day nobody cares about Nick and his gf maybe breaking up. And LA is the fakest city in the world, limitless amount of sycophants that will do anything to get in good with a young superstar like Russell. The story will have no durability. In a week everyone will have forgotten—probably even Nick.

This was said in the privacy of his hotel room and speaking with a teammate, there is a huge implication of privacy and trust. Basically its getting into J. Edgar Hoover/big brother type thinking when you can't have freedom of speech in your own hotel room with a co-worker......

I agree the broken trust is the big story here. I won't deny that. It's F'd up what he did. But I personally just got sucked in cause I don't think Young should be painted as an innocent victim either.

I'm pretty sure a lot of the Laker fans who are defending Russell calling him the 'good guy' in all of this are the same people who have all but forgotten about Kobe's infidelity. Anyway you spin it, what Russell did was worse on every leve, and yeah, this scandal is really bad. I personally will never be able to root for him after this and I'm sure many other fans feel the same. This has permanently damaged his reputation and 'brand' and affected the Lakers' free agency prospects. Even several years from now when the hooplah has died down, this is the kind of thing that will not be forgotten by him or anybody else in the league. An atrocious, unbelievably stupid, and frankly, sickening thing to do.

There aren't many NBA players I can say that I actively dislike, but he has certainly become one of them and I personally hope he doesn't recover from this. There are plenty of decent young players who actually have character that I can root for.
