Lot of relevant games tomorrow, as usual, but three big ones:

PHO@MIL
LAC@MIN
NYK@DAL

The odds are against us for all three of those. Having two of them go our way would be brilliant; I'd be happy enough with just one.

Even before I could type and post that Wizards are up 9 on Warriors in the 1st half, Golden State put up 12 straight points.

Don't consider LAC@MIN important anymore. No chance Brooklyn passes them down 4, with 8 to play. Most important games (outside Boston) now are Phoenix, Brooklyn, Dallas, Houston and Utah. Would even rank Wiz and Bulls games above Min bc it affects Dallas seeding.

Can't believe Brooklyn just beat Cleveland and Indiana in their last two games.. I really want that pick to be 3rd in the lottery, but it's still theoretically possible they could slip to 5th if Minnesota slackens and Brooklyn surges.

I also hate to say it, known it's unpopular, but I would love to see as go 2-7 the rest of the way, finish with 45 wins, and be passed in the standings by Miami (who'd have to go just 4-6), Charlotte (4-5), and maybe one of Indiana and Detroit (they'd have to go 7-2 and 7-1 respectively in this scenario). We'd pick 20th instead of 23rd, and wind up a 7th or 8th seed. Every little bit of draft positioning helps, especially if we're looking at trade opportunities.

3, 11, and 20 on lotto night vs. 4, 12 and 23..

Three spots from 23-20 is nowhere near worth losing home court and probably losing another first round series. For the purposes of NBA trading 20 and 23 are identical.

I think Dallas is cooked. Houston just needs to tread water until the last five games where things ease up for them.

Maybe.. I don't think draft position ever hurts, but I know a lot of teams think in 'tiers', so you have a point. I'd counter that having home court and maybe going two rounds instead of one in the playoffs isn't worth three spots..

Cap room, at this point, gets you 1-2 stars max, you can't completely reload a team in the off-season. The more draft picks you can hit on, the better. Rozier looks ok, but we saw how draft position really hurt us this summer.. If Payne, Myles Turner or Winslow were in the fold, the future for this team looks hugely different.

can't see Dallas pick getting down to 11th. That is Nuggets / Knicks Neighborhood. possible but barely possible.

Good point, I must have miscounted. The risk of them jumping into the top 3, though, is very small.

Blue sky is Durant/Horford with a 3rd star thrown in

Durant would be a shocker, but strangers things have happened. We get him, Horford follows. I'd really prefer to add those two to this core, deal around the margins for bench vets, and pick a couple of blue chippers at 4 & 12.. We could be OKC with a bigger wallet.

I think the big big danger is overpaying (4/12/Smart/JY/BKN '18 for Jimmy Butler) to get good immediately, but compromising the stockpile of assets that could make us great.

Should be fun watching pre-draft workouts after the lottery. Pay very close attention to which teams are working out players expected top 5, even though they don't own a pick that high. That will be a good indicator of who Ainge has spoken to.

Now Jrue Holiday is out for the season. Pelicans are shutting down. Fortunately their lead on Brooklyn is pretty big.

Porzingod doubtful for tonight against the Mavs. Ehh, didn't really give the Knicks much of a chance anyways.

I want to believe, but I feel like Brooklyn will get more unorthodox wins (CLE,IND)

Either way, placing 4th in the tankathon is also fine in terms of lottery odds, pray for the best! :)

This tread is my go to thread, second only to a game thread when there is a game.

Crazy interest in the top of the draft because we are looking at a top pick AND a playoff berth.
Pretty bloody good situation.

Eh, I'm not entirely in agreement. When the numbers get this small, it takes less and less bad luck for something to happen. BRK goes and wins two in a row (like they just did against IND and CLE) while Minny loses two, and suddenly your cushion is down to one game.

I'm pulling hard for that Dallas pick to be good, but I'm not taking any chances with the BRK pick - that's our bread winner. Won't be happy until MIN is up x games with x-1 to go.

I am predicting the Utah will win tonight!!!

Also, Phoenix will win.

New York Win.

And will go out on a limb and say San Antonio might probably win.

Minny loses I think, and the Heat will win by twelve, but only because they played a horrible game and went to the bench for the final eight minutes.
