Or you just draft Ingram and put him at 3. Boom. Done. Good offensive and defensive player. Don't have to remake entire roster just so he can dribble the ball around at 6'11" and not shoot.

5 years from now if Simmons is Lebron, and Ingram is Gay then you see the difference. I'm not saying that will happen, but that is certainly the risk of not drafting the most talented player.

I'm not ceding the fact that Simmons is more talented than Ingram. Doesn't shooting count as a talent? 15 months younger, standing reach of 4" more, what 41% from 3? And again, people on this board just kill Okafor for his defense and effort, when Simmons has exhibited the exact same traits. Why does he get a pass?

Optimism.

Sixers fans are desperate for a star, therefor initially they will bypass negatives in hopes they disappear in the NBA.Then 10 games in, we try to run the kid out of town because he can't immediately improve weaknesses.

Noel= Defensive center, athletic tools, raw offensively. 1 Year in: He can't shoot the 18 footer or play PF, trade him.

Okafor=Special Offensive talent, struggles with conditioning/defense/rebounding. 20 games in: He can't play defense, rebound or play the 4. Trade him

Rinse,Repeat.

Simmons=Will develop a jumper, play PG and SF and be a star.
Ingram=KD 2.0
Embiid=Is Hakeem 2.0. Is a star.

#SixerLife.

Shooting is a skill. Vision and feel for the game are talents.

I prefer Simmons at the PF spot with the ball in his hands to create. In previous eras I could see him playing SF but I'd be surprised if he ends up there in today's NBA.

Also, if Ingram is a star, he'll be able to play either SG or SF. Star wings generally are the secondary (if not the primary) ball handler for their team regardless of label. Obviously he'd be huge for SG but that shouldn't be a bad thing.

When Lebron was 19, he was averaging 27ppg and shooting 35% from 3s.

Simmons seems like a PF on offense. Not THAT horrible of a mid range shooter with little sample size.

hmm... Okafor's better mid range shooter in college?

Simmons is NOT a good shooter. I understand you can improve your shot, and its certainly something that can be done... But I also understand that there has been a very long line of prospects entering the NBA who could have been "special" had they ever developed there jumpers. Simmons has a ways to go to becoming even an average shooter, yet alone great.

Its a skill that you can improve, but not everyone can and does. Until he can dramatically improve his shot, he's a PF.

I see Simmons as some type of Giannis,Blake Griffin,Odom type of point forward. He not the explosive, freakish athlete as some of those guys, but he's a talented kid worthy of the top pick, but is also gonna require us shuffling the deck to bring in pieces that actually compliment his game. He thrives in transition, and attacking the basket. Your going to need players who can space the floor to open up lanes for him, and that can also defend and run in transition.

The reason Simmons 'seems like a PF on offense' in college is because he was. Projecting him as PG in the high pnr oriented NBA. Roles change. His vision, passing, ball handling, speed and agility, getting to the rim and get fouled - all common PG traits. It just freaks people out that he is 6-10 and will guard opposing PFs.

If you can generate one of those shot charts for Giannis over the last month then that will illustrate what it will be like.

And forget the Lebron comparisons. The dude was an outlier. Ben doesn't have the scoring or shooting ability.

Simmons absolutely has to be able to guard the opposing team's wing forward for him to be worth the top pick in the draft. I can look past his shooting deficiencies, but if you cannot defend anyone, then you aren't more than a role player.

Why would a PF need to defend wings?

Because he has a 6'11 wingspan and can barely guard undersized PF at the collegiate level much less the NBA talent level.

You don't need some elite defender at every position

That's definitely true... but you need to be at least passable at defense. He has only shown laziness thus far. But thanks for the hyperbole. Never said every position needs an elite defender.

Seriously.

Simmons is a unique player. A guy his size with his skills will cause more problems to the other team than he will cause to his own team defensively.

not trying to be sarcastic, genuine question, but if Simmons has SUCH severe flaws and red flags, how exactly did he become one of the most hyped prospects since LeBron in the first place? and even still an almost guaranteed #1 overall pick?

The ESPN machine man. They pushed this kid down everyone's throats so hard that even Simmons bought in and seemed to just be going through the motions at the end of the season day dreaming of the green room and Adam Silvers shiny head.

I'm not sold on him but I still don't know if I'm passing on him if we have the first overall selection. He has the size, length, athleticism, play making, and court vision. Can our staff work with him to run an NBA offense? I'd like to hope yes.

That, and the fact thatin the 2000s a prospect like Simmons would've been one of the most obvious #1 picks of the decade, who was going to dominate the NBA from day 1. Thing is, the league has evolved and Simmons can only thrive in a system built around him. He needs to be surrounded by shooters and he needs the ball in his hands. How many teams are looking to add non-shooters who don't play center? Like two lol. Can he play PG like Giannis or become a defensive force like Draymond Green? Maybe.

If I'm Philly I trade down, unless you're willing to trade away 1 or 2 of Embiid, Okafor, or Noels to build a team around Simmons at PF... Or take Ingram.

Bad news guys, just played this 4 times and didn't get in the top 2 any of those times.

Got the 4 & 5 twice in a row though.

Firstly, how great would it be to actually get to make this decision?

Secondly, they should think long and hard about this decision. They are paid for their foresight, not just to go with the group think. Nothing worse than reading 3 months after drafting someone that 'they had to take him, he was the consensus'.

If the teams aim is to become a half court offense based around multiple big's on the inside, a traditional PG, then Ingram is a great selection. He is basically plug and play in most teams.

If the teams aim is to have an uptempo offense based around a 6-10 PG running high pnr, a single big, with open driving lanes, then Simmons is a great pick. He will need a system and a pace suitable to his style.

All of this talk about the modern NBA and how the game has changed is all hogwash. What we have is a wave of new coaching styles that has ramped up the offense in the league.

Talent is still talent. Name me a single old style player that would have been a star 10 years ago that isn't a star now.

Simmons is a superstar, and will be a superstar in today's NBA or in the NBA of the 80's.
