Brandon Knight's Value?

Post#1 » by bondom34 » Fri Apr 1, 2016 4:31 am

This came from another thread, now I'm genuinely curious. What pick range would you give or type of package would you expect? If other, please clarify.

I think he's worth a pick from 9-14.

May be a Jrue Holiday for Knight swap might work for both Pelicans and Suns.

If I need a combo type guard, I'd give 15-23 for him without hesitation. He's not nearly as bad as some try to make him out to be. In this Draft, someone will surprise everyone in that range, but Knight is likely to be better than all the players picked with those picks.

What he's worth around the league should be much different than what I personally would want to give up for him, I'm biased because I really despise his game and am glad the Bucks aren't the team paying him 70 million... Around the league? Agreed with Slava, I'd say late lottery. Me personally, I wouldn't touch that. Probably not for a few spots after that as well. After that, it depends on how much I like a prospect...so I'd say something like 18-24.

I went 24-30. But I'm struggling to think of the team that would be picking in that range that would be willing to sacrifice the cap space for him before F.A. Probably a top 20 protected pick to a team who strikes out in FA.

If he would be willing to accept a 6th man like role as a scorer off the bench I think he'd increase his trade value. The problem is he is being paid like a starting PG.

I went with pick 24-30. If McDonough can sucker a team into giving up a top 9 protected 1st for Morris then surely he can get a late 1st for Knight.

I think you could get an idiot GM to give up maybe around a late lotto pick for him.

Again?

The Suns gave up potentially a top 5 pick, nobody is making that mistake again.

I'm not a huge fan of his, but he was drafted 8th in a better draft and has experience, and can nail threes on occasion in mass volume but you don't want him as your pg...you want him as sixth man. It depends on the team, but he can have value....Utah, Houston or Minnesota could probably benefit from him, but Minnesota probably gets one of Hield or Murray so they don't need him if that happens.

I think since this is a pretty bad draft, if you are in late lotto range and need someone at a guard spot that isn't raw who can hit 3s, he could be of value. His contract seems excessive now, but it might not soon, so with foresight, if a GM needs someone to fill that role, and they are fringe playoff and want to get there, he is likely worth the 9-14th pick if they can absorb the salary or get rid of players to make the salaries work.

Value all depends on the team. For 25 or more teams he has zero value. For perhaps a few, he has value, particularly ones with either bad contracts that have players the Suns could utilize or just the few that may benefit from a guy like him.

He'd be a good fit on the Knicks. They could use a 3 point shooter

If the Magic stroke out in free agency I would trade this years pick (probably 11) to have him as a sixth man.

I chose "other" because right now Knight is almost unmovable. I can't see a GM giving up more than a late first for him and I can't see McDonough willing to give him away at that price. Knight has been hobbled all season and when he has played he's bounced between the 1 and the 2 while lining up next to mostly bench quality players. As a result, his game has really suffered. The only GM's that would be interested in him today would likely be expecting a fire sale and McD is smart enough to know you don't sell when your asset is at it's lowest.

A pick in the late teens sounds about right.

The Hornets will have a ton of cap space this summer and they likely will not be big players in FA. Their bench can use a lot of help and Knight as a 6th man could remedy that need immediately. They can do something like Zeller + #21 for Knight which I think would help both teams plenty.

I think BK would be a nice fit in Houston, next to Harden since he can play off the ball and spread the floor. Something like:
Knight
For
Beverly
Brewer
NYK 2016 2nd(via HOU)
BAF: Phoenix Suns
PG: Ja Morant / Ajay Mitchell / R.Nembhard
SG: Coby White / Kon Knueppel / Sion James
SF: Keegan Murray / Tristan da Silva / M.Peavy
PF: Matas Buzelis / Noah Clowney / C.Martin
C: Evan Mobley / Quentin Post / Luka Garza

I wouldn't take Kanter for him and I chose the 15 or later option.

For me, it would take a 1st for me to consider taking him for cap space...

...but there might be a team or two out there that sees him as an average starter who's just in a bad situation. If that's the case I could see a mid-first for him.

If I'm Houston I'd MUCH rather have Beverly on his contract.
