Evolution of Marcus Morris Appreciation Thread

Post#1 » by treefi » Fri Apr 1, 2016 9:01 pm

"He might have the best mid-range game I've seen in my entire time of playing basketball," Andre Drummond said of Morris to Mlive.

Throughout the year Marcus Morris has consistently been the second or third best defensive player (behind KCP, or Drummond when he focused on defense) on the Pistons roster right now.

In the last win vs OKC, KCP defended Westbrook (who shot 8 of 28 and lost) most of the time but when they switched out on screens, Morris handled Westbrook. He did a great job keeping Westbrook out of the lane.

"I just forced him into long threes," Morris told Mlive. "He's a great player, stays in the lane, so I just tried to keep him out of the lane. KCP did a great job picking him up early in transition."

http://www.mlive.com/pistons/index.ssf/2016/03/pistons_marcus_morris_continue.html

For the entire month of March (15 games) Morris averaged: 16.1ppg, 4.5rpg, 2.2apg, and shot 49.2% from the floor.

He also made more than half of the 4.2 three pointers attempted each game (50.8%).

What is his ceiling? Do you think he'll continue shooting above 40% from three point?

If he can continue his hot shooting, facilitate a little keep playing with his toughness holy ****. That's all I really would have to say. A very good player is what it would be. I wouldn't want to play us in the Playoffs either

There are a lot of games in what I was thinking "Why we're not giving Mook the ball in the post?"

He got a great and finesse mid range game and he got the size and the skills to be a mismatch to SFs and PFs

His presence makes not only the whole team better but makes Harris absolutely lethal, and vice versa.

I am slowly starting to realize that we have the most versatile PF/SF starting combo in the league and they compliment each other perfectly.

Is it any wonder that when Harris hit this team Morris became almost unstoppable? Harris's presence makes that possible.

At this rate Morris is going to be an all-star or be in serious consideration for a long damn time.

I can't believe that all of these trades we NOT just good, or stop gaps but home runs.

Morris is the best wing this team has had since Grant hill.

His career path up to this point sorta reminds me of Billups. Even once Chauncey got here it took a year or two before we started figuring out he had potential to be one of the best at his position in the league and then suddenly he was. He probably doesn't end up that good but he is certainly WAY better than I expected... And most of the league still has no idea lol

He is calm, confident, strong, plays good defense, elite mid range, great post game... and is now deadly from 3. If it stays that way we're going to be a real threat to upset Cleveland or Toronto in the 1st round.

He's finishing 70% at the rim, 45% from 16'-3pt, and 36% from 3. He should focus more on those areas and less from 10-16' where he's not as good (38%), and he could be one of the better 2 way players in the league.

You should make the next one, but a poll, using the ceilings people set for Morris in this thread. :D Or not lol. Any ideas?

If Marcus Morris is an all-star next year, does Stanley have a path forward to a starting spot in Detroit? Marcus is what, 26??

27 in September. His play would probably start dropping off in 4-5 years... If Stanley would be okay being a super 6th man that long, perfect!

There are a future HOF being 6th man like Ginobili, and players like Odom or Vinnie Johnson who really could help to win a ring. Marcus, Tobias and Stanley can fill the SF-PF spots for the next years, and that is a high quality rotation.

Marcus is the one guy on the team that I feel like almost every game I'm thinking we should go to more often. Sometimes we get away from him too much doing too many Reggie/Dre pick and rolls and it just seems Marcus is such a high % efficient player as of late that we got to get him 15+ FGAs every night while he's feeling it.

I agree we need to go to him more - maybe we'll do it in the playoffs when it's more about half court execution?

From the elbow he could be deadly! His shooting % from 10-16 says otherwise but that doesn't take into account the easy shots he creates from that range

From the elbow he can drive, swing it either side, lob it to Dre...got all the skills to take advantage of a mis match...

Thank you Phoenix for giving him away AND for fuelling him

He is blossoming at the right time. :D

Best non-rookie contract in the league, other than the MVP.
