Donald Trump Has An Ace To Play Against Fox News
The GOP front-runner has information that could damage the cable news network if it were to be made public.
04/03/2016 11:22 pm ET
Christina Wilkie
National Political Reporter, The Huffington Post
When Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump launched a crusade against Fox News and its star anchor, Megyn Kelly, last summer, many political insiders saw the move as the beginning of the end of Trump’s upstart campaign.
Why would anyone seeking the Republican presidential nomination attack a network that reaches huge swaths of the Republican primary electorate?
One answer is that Trump was angry with Kelly and Fox News after the anchor asked him a tough question during a Republican presidential debate in August.
But in a newly published article Sunday in New York Magazine, author and journalist Gabriel Sherman reveals how Trump came to possess ultra-insider information about Fox News and its founder, Roger Ailes, that could be damaging if it were ever to be made public.
It’s this leverage, Sherman writes, that has so far discouraged Fox News from launching an all-out war on Trump.
Below is an excerpt from Sherman’s piece:
It was also thanks to some information he had gathered that Trump was able to do something that no other Republican has done before: take on Fox News. An odd bit of coincidence had given him a card to play against Fox founder Roger Ailes. In 2014, I published a biography of Ailes, which upset the famously paranoid executive. Several months before it landed in stores, Ailes fired his longtime PR adviser Brian Lewis, accusing him of being a source. During Lewis’s severance negotiations, Lewis hired Judd Burstein, a powerhouse litigator, and claimed he had “bombs” that would destroy Ailes and Fox News. That’s when Trump got involved.
“When Roger was having problems, he didn’t call 97 people, he called me,” Trump said. Burstein, it turned out, had worked for Trump briefly in the ’90s, and Ailes asked Trump to mediate. Trump ran the negotiations out of his office at Trump Tower. “Roger [Ailes] had lawyers, very expensive lawyers, and they couldn’t do anything. I solved the problem.” Fox paid Lewis millions to go away quietly, and Trump, I’m told, learned everything Lewis had planned to leak. If Ailes ever truly went to war against Trump, Trump would have the arsenal to launch a retaliatory strike.

I wonder how people will feel if Paul Ryan ends up being the nom.
He's been Frank Underwooding for the last 4 years. This is the opening he lives for.

No prior losing VP candidate has ever successfully run for POTUS, with the exception of FDR, in the history of our country.
Ryan is a disciple of Ayn Rand who shaped his world view. So it's no surprise he wants to voucherize socialist/New Deal programs like SS, medicare, etc. He's the guy who called black men "lazy." According to Ryan, he can run a marathon in under 3 hours. What more is there to know?
Btw, is anybody complaining about the site getting a little "sticky" if you know what I mean?

The Panama Papers show something Bernie Sanders gets right about the economy
By Matthew Yglesias
April 4, 2016, 12:00 p.m. ET
Throughout the 2016 primary campaign, Bernie Sanders has distinguished himself as an opponent of the pro-globalization consensus that characterized the administrations of both Bill Clinton and Barack Obama. Typically this consensus is framed in terms of trade, but global economic integration is about much more than the flow of goods across borders — it's about the nature of the rules that govern (or don't) economic activity on a worldwide basis.
It's about breaking down particular kinds of barriers and establishing particular kinds of common rules. Deliberate choices are made that advantage some and disadvantage others; working-class residents of rich countries generally get the short end of the stick, not because of choices that help the global poor but because of deliberate efforts to safeguard the interests of the global financial elite.
Deep globalization is about much more than trade
The key fact about the process of globalization over the past 30 years is that it's about a lot more than the physical movement of goods across international borders.
The United States, for example, is a major global exporter of both pharmaceuticals and entertainment products. Many foreign countries where these are not major industries have intellectual property rules that are friendlier to consumers of medicines and TV shows and less friendly to their producers. In bilateral and multilateral trade agreements, American negotiators typically put a high priority on inducing foreign countries to changing their domestic laws to more closely conform to US practices and the interests of big US-based firms.
America's bilateral trade promotion agreement with Panama is no exception to this, with the US Trade Representative's Office touting "important disciplines ... related to intellectual property" that are included in the agreement.

"extreme" is a matter of perception. For example Bernie is CERTAINLY every bit as extreme as Trump or Cruz. Because of his popularity, Hillary has shifted some of her views to be more in line with Sanders supporters.
If I am a liberal, I probably watch news networks not named Fox much the way Jon Stewart does: I would not see liberal bias. Same viewer can CLEARLY see the conservative bias on Fox. News is sensationalist, so it makes sense in that genre. When it comes to the party's what we see are two sides that don't want to give each other inches because no one wants to be accused of being moderate (it seems). Certainly the insult on the Republican side is "you agree with Hillary" or "you voted for that Obama bill" both statements should not be insults! Similarly, when Bush was in office, the insult was to Democrats "you sound like you agree with Bush" or "you voted with Bush on..." It is politics. So I cannot agree that the republicans are more radical than the Dems.
the often complete unwillingness to compromise this past two presidential terms by the repub congress is the worst for many decades easily. they have been super petty to the point of shutting down federal operations and putting the country at great risk and still make that threat to shut down the govt. this extremism has not seen anything at all similar from the dem party in any of our lifetimes
Any numbers to back that up? Or are you talking from your gut?
You are allowed to feel the way you do, but I feel like the government, on BOTH SIDES has been doing this for quite some time. Even the supreme court nomination debacle is a repeat of something the Dem's did. Obama's nomination was a great ploy, I don't think he would want it to go through, but he KNEW the republicans would say no anyway. good save-face move.
you want numbers? lol if you demand numbers to prove the more extreme parts of the repub party is more obstructing then ive got nothing more to say to you about it. its been obvious to anyone with eyes and you ask for numbers
