I don't even think he'll be a first rounder.

Could he be another Bruno Cabloco experience? Could see him select at range of 15-22

Re: Thon Maker
Not sure what you guys are seeing but I would gamble on him with the Pistons pick. Even if it takes a couple years to get him on the court the dudes a athletic freak 7 footer with handles, a jumpshot and can block and dunk everything. He's definitely worth a gamble in a weaker draft as the payoff could be huge.

he is not an athletic freak, his jumpshot is not refined and the handles... it is not about blocking only when it comes to defense and his lower body hasnt got the strength for banging inside and rebound.
the little improvement he has shown is a case for concern, he projects mostly as an energy big, he does play hard.

All I know is from the highlight videos and he looks a lot like Drummond did from his high school highlights. I'm not saying he won't be raw as **** coming in just that there could be a big pay off cause you can't teach that kind of size.

Drummond lower body strength+athleticism is unparalelled, and a huge reason why he is effective, and it is all genetics, Thon's legs wont even make up for one of Drummond's trunks.
It is not even worth comparing.

Re: Thon Maker
He is the ultimate tools vs production prospect.
Pros: Elite height and length, promising jumpshot for a big, seems to have good handles for a big man, seems to be a fluid and mobile athlete when you watch his film
Cons: Gets bullied in the post and on the glass despite his frame, actual jumpshot results have been inconsistent (could be partly due to shot selection), turns it over a lot when he tries to handle the ball, gets caught by double teams when try to attack the rim/post up, slight for his frame, needs to add a lot of strength.
If workouts go well for him (they very likely might) I could definitely see a team taking a shot on him over an otherwise middling 1st round prospect. Would a team gamble on Maker instead of taking Tyler Ulis, or Damion Jones, or Wade Baldwin ? I could certainly see someone taking a shot. If that happens he could get into the back half of the lottery.

Re: Thon Maker
He has average length compared to his height, the jumpshot was promising when he was 16-17, now it is iffy, he is a fluid and mobile athlete that plays with energy.
The handle means nothing, he doesnt project as a guy that is going to have the ball in his hands or attack off the dribble.

Drummond looked just like that in high school. He just blew up after that to almost 300 lbs. But Drummond was 18 coming into the NBA already younger than Thon now and had already grown those trunk legs so I guess you have a point.

Ehhh... Drummond as a high school senior had those legs already, 100%, he didnt blew up to 300lbs, he was 280lbs as an 18yo.

He graduated in June of 2015 and has played "post-grad" hs basketball in Canada. The rule is 1 year removed from HS graduation and 19. He meets the requirements. He will be a second round pick.

Re: Thon Maker
Def lottery pick , depending on his workouts and said drafting teams needs he could go as high as 4 or 5 .
Like his potential over all other 7 footers in this draft.
Oh and he is gaining weight nicely , currently close to 230lbs .
Agree with many here that he wont spend too many hours on an NBA court next season , but with good coaching/ training he has excellent potential.

Re: Thon Maker
If Memphis misses the playoffs, Denver will have four first round picks (Portland, Houston and Memphis). They could easily take the risk on Maker's upside (even if it's just a stash) in the middle of the first round because they have Lavergne, Faried, Nurkic and Jokic. It's not a bad move for him realistically.
And Denver like Portland, tends to actually develop their talent.

There are a ton of internationals prospects worth gambling on before him, that is the issue, the draft is loaded with bigs as well

Re: Thon Maker
I don't understand some of the people saying he is a 2nd round guy. Any big who can somewhat handle and somewhat shoot has a case to be drafted early, just in case that upside is one day reached. Guards are a dime a dozen in this league. I'm not taking ANY guard over this guy. If he can get in this draft and then get to some individual workouts at the combine I gotta think a lot of teams are going to start thinking the same.
