I see him taking a pay cut and choosing a contender

Re: Signing Pau gasol?
Baynes is the one backup that doesn't need to be upgraded. Stanley I doesn't need to be upgraded per se, just hope that he gets a lot better and more consistent. Priorities should definitely be 1.Back up PG 2.Back up Wing 3.Back up PF.

Gaol is 35.
Noah is 31.
Don't want guys that old with our young core.
Thirdly it would take a truckload of cash to get him!

Re: Signing Pau gasol?
I don't think anyone would oppose signing Paul Gasol at 32 but not now. Gasol may have been a damn fine player and champion back in the day, but those days are long gone people.
Move on. It's not happening anyway so this whole thread is kinda pointless.

I've watched a lot of Bulls this year, and last year and when he was with the Lakers. He's a good defensive player. I think you are letting Hoiberg's soft defense influence your opinion of Pau. He's a 2 way player, no doubt about it.

And you haven't notice how the other team always look for a 2vs2 pick n roll involving Gasol and Rose? His lateral speed is inexistent, and there are a lot shots he don't contest because of rebounds (yep, like Dre or the king in that trick, Kevin Love). I think, and I'm not trying to humble you, you are like the most of basketball fans: You watch the game but you really don't understand what's happening on the court. Most of fans are always looking the ball and don't see the big picture.

He'd be great if we were looking for our own version of 'Meet the Hoopers.' We'd just have to cast Mom, Dad, Son, and Baby.

Save the patronizing crap. It's not making you look smarter. Implying Drummond and Gasol are purposefully not contesting shots in order to pad their rebounding stats is ludicrous. You might want to learn the game before telling others they don't understand it. What you are referring to is them not trusting their teammates to rotate and pick up their man, so they have to stay with them instead to prevent the offensive rebound/putback. It's not a trick they are doing to get extra rebounds, smart guy. It's by necessity because they have guys like Ersan, Mirotic, and Harris as their helpside defenders who aren't rim protectors, so they often have to try to do both jobs themselves. Which is why they would benefit defensively if playing together, having a legit secondary rim protector behind them off the p'n'r so they can contest more. Gasol is a better overall defensive player than what we have now in Tobias, and it's really not even close..
The reason teams put Pau/Rose in so many pick and rolls is because most teams primary p'n'r today is the 1-5. They aren't targeting them as much as they are just running their offense, which happens to involve their positions.
Pau is top 15 in drtg and top 5 in defensive box +/- for a reason.

Man, there are so many times in a game the other team clearly look for Pau match up with their perimeter players. You don't want part of that with DeAndre or Gobert, who make excellent pick n rolls rotations.
I bet you like 30000000000000 dollars I've seen Gasol plays bb so much more than you, and I'm a big fan of every europe star in the NBA. Gasol in his prime wasn't that bad who some people claimed, but right now this 36 years old version is basically Monroe's defense with some blocks because his size.

If you want, I can put you several plays like these of nearly every game of this season, if you're gonna argue it's only one game sample.

That video is from last season when the Bulls had a top 10 defense with Pau. That's not helping your argument. The reason the Bulls defense got worse this year is because of Hoiberg, not Gasol. He's proven that you can have a top defense with him when you have a good defensive coach, which we have in Stan. The Lakers were a top 5 defense 4 yrs straight from '08-'11 and won 2 championships with him. MEM had a top 5-10 defense 3 yrs straight with him. And he wasn't much more of an athlete then than he is now. As mentioned, Bulls were top 10 with him last year at 34. Greg Monroe has never been on a good defense his whole career, and just turned a top defense into the worst with his addition. Comparing Pau to him is a joke.
Where you're really off base though is comparing him to Jordan and Gobert. Because he's not an elite defender and you're making a mistake holding him to that standard in the first place. That's not his game. He is a very good overall defensive player though, and when combined with his elite offense, the overall effect he has on games makes him a plus player that makes teams better, not worse. And yes you can have a top defense with him too, as he has proven throughout his career. If you want to nitpick plays here and there to try and suggest otherwise, do whatever you want, but the overall results don't agree with your argument.

Re: Signing Pau gasol?
I'd agree Gasol is a *smart* defender, and was once a good defender, but those days are likely gone. He's lost his foot speed, which is what made him an elite 4/5 back in the day. Same thing happened to Dirk. They're both smart enough to be good players anyway, but it's easier to be smart/unathletic on offense than it is on defense.

Re: Signing Pau gasol?
They were 2nd best defense the previous year to the Gasol signing, they were 11th last year. You can't invent facts for make strong your argument, Pau defense is awful right now and I don't care if he puts 6 blocks per game, you just need to learn how to watch basketball.

Re: Signing Pau gasol?
Pretty sure it's been said already, but he would be a good backup center. Playing him at PF wouldn't even be an option in our offense.
Besides the fact that we couldn't pay him much, i'm sure he'd rather sign with a proven contender.
