Pistons starters. Excellent/crazy stat inside.

Wondering just how good this current starting lineup us in just their first 21 games with Tobias "Skiles traded me twice" Harris?

This is the stat that gets me all giddy inside. Thru the first 77 games of the season, the Detroit Pistons lead the league in starters scoring in double figures.

27 times total

That's a fantastic stat and shows how hard it is to gaurd this team, but wait, it gets better.

27 out of 77 is good for 35% of the time, all five Piston starters will score in double figures. (21-6 when that happens)

That in and of itself is amazing and of course, leads the league.

Now here is where it gets even better.

In the 46 games without Harris in the starting lineup (2 with him on the Pistons roster but NOT as a starter) the Pistons did it 15 times for a 32% clip still good enough for best in the league.

When Harris is in the starting lineup?

In the 21 games played total with Harris in the starting lineup, the Detroit Pistons had all 5 starters score in double figures an astounding 12 times. That's good enough for a 57% clip and would project out to 46 games where the Detroit Piston starters would all score in double figures in one season.

The Pistons lead the league right now at 27 times and at a 35% clip.

What's the win percentage when this current Pistons starting lineup all scores in double figures?

This team is just starting out and teams already have huge problems guarding our starting 5. Imagine what they will do next year with a full training camp and whatever pieces Stan is going to add to the mix?

We are like that Portland squad a couple years ago that had a starting 5 that could hang with any other team in the league, but had one of the worst benches ever. If only our bench wasn't so dreadful we could make it past the first round. Hopefully this gets addressed in the off-season.

Yep, bench.

We've had a quality backup 5 for 80% of the season (once Baynes got settled).
We've had a quality backup 1 for 10% of the season (one good stretch from Blake, otherwise complete crap).

Stanley has struggled. Tolliver has mostly struggled. The backup 2's have either been hurt or mostly struggled.

They've had a good game here or there, but we've basically suffered through a crap bench most of the year.

I'll wait on SJ's improvement, as I'm 100% sure it's coming in a year or two, and Baynes is now a stalwart, but all the rest of the minutes should be up for grabs in the off season. If Stanley gets 20-25 minutes at the 2/3 and Baynes 15 minutes at the 5, that's 35-40 minutes taken. We'll need around 75-80 minutes total from the bench, so half should be up for grabs.

15 min of quality PG play -- source unknown
15 min of quality PF play -- source unknown
10-15 min of quality wing play alongside Stanley -- source unknown, but perhaps Hilliard or Bullock

That's our off-season.

Great news, great stats. Bodes well for the playoffs.

Stan needs to give Bullock a chance to help that bench though.
SJ will get it together also.

Blake/SJ/bullock/Tolliver/baynes

I want to see that bench unit rolled out.
Bullock didn't get his chance to play with SJ & Tolliver. I think he should.

If anyone sits, it should be Tolliver.

Nice research. The Tobias trade has been an absolute success. Imagine what a full season with this starting lineup can achieve, especially with a stronger second unit.

Yeah, great research Zeeb. This is a young team with some pretty impressive talent.

Regarding SJ, yeah he has struggled offensively. He seemed to be getting it together prior to his injury. He shot has been off since his return, but the 19 YO is a defensive load and still scores some clutch baskets. It's the defense that makes SVG play him. I thought he looked the best of anyone defending Butler. Stanley needs to a figure out just what he can do in the league. It's all about experience. "Throwing him in'" on a trade IMO would be worse than Middleton. When this kid figures it out; LOAD!

While there are questions (aren't there always,) these are better days for Piston fans.

Think I've seen enough from Ilyasova. He's a solid player, but if his one superior skill is stretching the floor, he doesn't do it assertively enough. I guess his other superior skill is taking charges, but that's just going to get his old ass hurt.

That said, if he came cheap enough (which he won't), I'd consider it. Illy for 2/10 or 3/15 with a PO would allow us to spend most of our available cap on a point guard, which is a bigger need.

I bet he gets a much fatter deal than that, though (and if Orlando thinks he's worth 8 million, they'll use the team option and trade him later, because decent 8 million dollar players are going to have value in this crazy new cap environment).
