It was great to get a top 5 talent late in the lottery, being that it's very possible Suns will again get a late lottery talent with a top 5 pick in this draft.

I also think Booker should have got it but am used to the Suns getting screwed around.

Interesting to read this now. http://www.brightsideofthesun.com/2015/6/26/8851409/2015-draft-day-hangover-how-do-the-phoenix-suns-grade-out

General take was that the Suns drafted the BPA and not for need. Booker could be a nice piece. He was treated as a good shooter with deficiencies on most other areas. Some writers just get it wrong.

He is 19 and starting in the NBA, given the green light to shoot any time he wants, multiple 30 pt games. It might be good for him to get snubbed a bit. His head could explode any minute.

“You can’t get pushed over in this league,” Booker said. “If you have the reputation of being soft, every time you step on the floor, teams are going to try to bully you. I have to let my presence be known.”

“People always think I’m trash-talking but I’m really talking to myself. ‘Let’s go, Book.’ ‘Nobody can guard you, Book.’ I’m just talking to myself. It’s really just something that keeps me going. Some people take it personal but, oh well.”

I love trash talking in the NBA. All the greats played with an edge. I think Booker has that.

I love that he understands this at such a young age. Being "hard" and trash talking for some people is a sign of their insecurities and weakness but I think he's very much at peace with himself, he's confident and he just understands the game.

From arizonasports.com ...

With 16 points, Suns rookie guard Devin Booker reached 1,014 for the season, making him the fourth-youngest player to reach 1,000 in his career, following only LeBron James, Kevin Durant and Kobe Bryant.

When people don't understand that, all it tells me is I am talking to a non-athlete, and like Book says "oh well," because it is a waste of time. He loves firing up himself. I love that in him.

Just went onto the Sixers board to read what they think of BC and JC. Some there are really drooling over trying to get Booker. He has gotten some real attention around the league.

Some of the writers on Sports Illustrated are insane.

http://www.si.com/nba/2016/04/11/nba-awards-stephen-curry-lebron-james-karl-anthony-towns

A few of them have the rookie of the year race in order of Towns, Porzingis, and Booker. But other writers have it as Towns, Porzingis, and Jokic. Are they serious. What a complete joke. Yeah I am sure that every time the Nuggets play their opponent, the first person on the opponent's scouting report is Nikola Jokic and they will double team him all game long like Booker. How are these people even writers. Jokic has scored 20 or more points a game a total of five times all season. Booker has scored 30 POINTS OR MORE six times this season. How could anyone in their right mind put Jokic ahead of Booker.

You guys need to watch teams other than the Suns, I know being fans we get giddy and blinded by homerism.Jokic looks like the second coming of Pau with the vision of a point forward I'm not even exaggerating. He's played lesser minutes but trumps Booker in every advanced metric be it ORtg,DRtg PER, TS% second only to KAT in most categories. Of course I would take Booker because he will likely be the better high volume scorer who can carry a team down the stretch but not as a true #1. But Jokic brings so much to the table , he does a bit of everything

Before even reading your whole post or checking out your link I just did a side by side comparison of them and it is clear who is leading from an advanced stats perspective.

http://bkref.com/tiny/c2VNX

And what's amazing is he even barely shoots worse from 3, albeit on significantly lower volume.

What's also amazing is that there are still fans out there who solely focus on points scored.

Here is a comparison I am much more interested in. Booker versus Kobe's second year. I chose Kobe's second year so I can compare them both at age 19. Their statistics are eerily similar and almost identical in several per game categories. http://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/pcm_finder.cgi?request=1&sum=0&y1=1998&p1=bryanko01&y2=2016&p2=bookede01&p3=&p4=&p5=&p6=#per_game::none

You know the biggest difference? Kobe put up those numbers surrounded by players like Shaq, Van Exel, Eddie Jones, Horry, Fisher, Rick Fox, etc. Booker is surrounded by such incredible juggernauts such as Price, Leuer, Len, Knight, Morris for a while, etc. So guess what. Booker is constantly double teamed and is the first guy on the opponent's scouting report yet he still excelled and is having a rookie season on par with future NBA hall of famers. Imagine if Booker played alongside those players that Kobe had at 19. And before anyone says Booker would not get the same shot attempts per game if he had Shaq (which is obvious), you can check the stats and see that on the season Kobe's FGA per game was actually higher than Booker's this year leading into tonight's game.

I highly doubt Kobe was the first guy on the opponent's scouting when he was 19. Not a chance. It was Shaq. You pair Booker with a hall of fame center and see what happens. Wow that sounds exciting. I hope it happens one day.

Even more "interesting" than that

Booker is one of 12 rooks to put up similar or better averages in the last 10 years. The only notable stat is that he's the youngest of them to do it.

Let's be honest, he's easily the most interesting rookie that's come our way since Amare but that's about it. Is he special, yes. Is he Kobe special and should he be put in the same sentence as Kobe, definitely not.

Obviously I am a big fan of Booker. I'm not a fan of Kobe. I put no ceiling on Booker. I think Booker WILL be better than Jokic, and, for his age, is one of the best scorers and just shows a high iq at such a young age. Jokic obviously had a monster year though. I didn't even watch him. I certainly wouldn't trade Booker for him though.
