Sam Hinkie steps down per Marc Stein

This is literally the worst outcome possible from 3 years ago. Tank and have to deal with a horrible team for multiple years and then get impatient at the last second and stupidly cash in your chips to rush back to the middle of the pack Ed Snider style.

Imagine running a billion dollar organization and then hiring a 78 year old executive who insists on living across the country, drives your chief executive out and then insists the best person to replace him is his son......How is that smart? Of all the people in the world qualified to replace Hinkie they think Jerry's son is the best?

Seriously f#$%# this ownership group. Last 3 years as a Sixer fan was the first time I had hope since 2001 and just when it looked like there was going to be a benefit from it they get cold feet.

Hinkie is an Analytics geek...he is not an NBA GM....he may have convinced many on this forum that he is and that's your problem for falling for it.

Yes. But Hinkie doesn't just look at analytics alone. His decision making is a cross of various principles.

For example, you read about Philip Tetlocks' Superforecaster (which seems to be what Hinkie has read based on his resignation letter), he talks about the best superforecasters considering all sources before making a prediction (Fox beats hedgehogs).

Like a previous poster said, what Hinkie did wrong was making this team unwatchable for 3 years. Those losing records caught everyone's attention that prevents him to do what he wants.

Another thing people forget is that Brian was going to not only sign Fields but trade for Nash. He also would have conceivably then traded Lowry.

He was a disaster. The only thing that got in the way of him totally screwing things up was his own ineptness. I mean alot of GM's bemoan the trades they weren't able to make Brian breathes a sigh of relief.

It's about right versus wrong.

It's about the enjoyment we get rooting for a team that is being run thoughtfully and intelligently and with purpose versus a team that is doing things like everyone else.

Precisely, this is a shortsighted franchise that is not dedicated to building a true winner. People think it's easy to build from the ground up, it's cool though, they'll sleep in the bed they made. I however know when enough is enough. If you told me 3 years we were tanking and acquiring money and assets to have the colangelo boys make decisions I woulda been left. Can't follow ineptness, that would be true stupidity.

I hope the Colangelo family brings success to your organization. Bryan is a good GM, he made mistakes in Toronto no doubt, but he did a lot of good as seen in our team presently. I think he's learned a lot from sitting out for a few years and now back with his dad, I think he's going to do good things for Philly.

This is definitely a dream job for any new GM coming in with all the flexibility and draft picks coming up. Draft night should be interesting for you guys (I hope Lakers lose their pick for the crap they surrounded Kobe with).
