Official Bryan Colangelo thread (for Hinkie talk, use the Hinkie thread)
Merging in some other threads and making this the official Bryan Colangelo thread.

First of all I think Jerry is a slimeball snake. His son Dopey the GM is horrible. I hate what they did. I wish Hinkie were still in charge. With all that said Hinkie is not the only GM who can improve the SIxers. I'm sure there are plenty of GMs who could improve this team and make it a contender.
Hinkie left the team almost idiot proof. It's so easy to improve this team even a caveman can do it. So even though I think Dopey the GM is horrible I think he should at least be able to not mess it up at least right away. Now that Hinkie is gone do you guys think a player like DeRozen could come to the Sixers since Bryan did draft him? Even though Jerry is a snake he is still highly respected around the league. Players like him.
Do you think we could get DeRozen and Mike Conley? If they did pull that off would you guys be happy about it? I'm sure the Colangelos will tell players they are trying to win and going in a new direction. They are going to sweet talk players. So let's put all the hate aside for a moment and just think about this offseason. Do we have a better chance of getting DeRozen now that Hinkie is gone? Do we have a better chance of getting better players? Also, before Hinkie left I didn't want the Lakers pick to convey. Now that he's gone I now want that Lakers pick for fear that Bryan will trade it for some midlevel player.

I want the lakers pick even less now. We will need it because we will probably since some middling free agents and pick outside the top ten next year

Having Bryan on board for this upcoming draft alone will be worth the 3 year deal he will probably get. Downside is he has 50 million dollars to spend. He likes to swing for the fences.
The draft lottery is huge for your team. If somehow two teams leapfrog the lakers, you get two of the top 4 picks. Who is to say durant doesn't join a team with a stable of young bigs, all those picks, and still 20 million for whoever he wants to join him.

Excellent suits. These men dress impeccably.
DeRozen and Conley wold make us a very respectable team but I just cannot fathom these guys even considering us. Every team has cap space and we cant pay them anymore. We really are looking at guys on the tier below this. Its just an unfortunate year to be looking to make a move in FA.

Really? Everyone would say that. Even here, land of the homers, that comment is way out there.

Re: Let's Talk About Bryan & Jerry Colangelo and What to Expect Going Forward
DeRozan was drafted by Bryan and has ties with the dad with the USA team. 26 years old. No current backcourt "of the future" for the sixers...
i would say very good chance they go after him... money being the downside here obv. he's going to ask for max.
I would say depending on the outcome of the lottery... other moves would stem from that. May 17th is hugeeee.

Respectable is not what we want. We want championships.
Lakers pick won't convey. As an aside, they have been as bad as the Sixera lately.
Give me Denzel Valentine with the heat's pick. Drafting a stable senior coached by Izzo will help.

I'm expecting him to trade Okafor, our 1st this year, LAL first, our first next year, and the year after that for Russell Westbrook, and then Westbrook won't re-sign with us. Complete forfeiture of our future. But a year of Russell would be fun!

Re: Let's Talk About Bryan & Jerry Colangelo and What to Expect Going Forward
Two things jump out at me from this thread:
1. "Jerry is a slimeball snake". I think that's a bit unfair. We will probably never know the how or why Jerry is here...whether Harris soured on Hinkie or if he was forced on us by the league and/or the other owners. What I do know is that Jerry *is* USA Basketball. Anyone hoping to play on the Olympic team has to deal with him and with the new practice facility that can only be a good thing.
I don't liken Jerry to a snake but I do tend to think he may be the Don Corleone of the NBA. Hopefully he can nab a few key free agents with "an offer you can't refuse".
2. "Bryan drafted DeRozan and has ties to team USA". Hopefully they have a good relationship and he can lure DeRozan here. One of the complaints about Hinkie was that he was basically invisible. Bryan will be different and again, with his ties to team USA that can only help.

Re: Let's Talk About Bryan & Jerry Colangelo and What to Expect Going Forward
DeRozen gets offered. Most likely signs and we pay him max money. He is the SG (who can't shoot) of the future.
Ryan Anderson gets a max offer to be the stretch 4.
Sixers trade a future first, plus one of the OKC/MIA picks, for Trey Burke.
Sixers bring Saric over, and draft Ingram if they get the top pick.
Okafor is the starting C until Embiid can be a full time go. Noel is traded for some no-name player that ends up being released later, and is one of BC's "bad moves" that hurts this franchise.
PG- Burke/Smith
SG- DeRozan/Stauskas
SF- Ingram/Covington
PF- Anderson/Saric
C- Okafor/Embiid

And the draft is nothing special either.
A smart FO and GM will be very patient this summer, especially with this FA-list, ...
We'll see if they are smart.

Lots of veterans overpaid to come here to artificially inflate us to the 10th pick next year instead of top 5
The feedback I've received from our fans is they understand we are trying to build something great. Good decisions come from having a broad set of options and making tough calls. We will do it unblinkingly. We have to be willing to take smart risks-Hinkie

Don't forget, thanks to 1 certain man, we can swap with the Kings

Thanks for bringing this up. I feel a sigh of relief that we are not the only fanbase with an inept front office (yeah, yeah judges are still out I know...) after the Nets got rid of Billy King.

It's not unfair because he never tried to make the situation work. His only goal since the day he was hired was make his son a GM again.
Which is a shame because Jerry really could have helped the sixers and Hinkie. His contacts and wealth of experience are not easy to come by in the NBA. It's why the GSW gave West a stake in their franchise to join. It's why Brian got the job the first time around with the raps. It's why Brians resume in PHX looks alot better then his resume in TOR.
Even if in the best case scenario Jerry babysits Brian like he did in PHX that still doesn't change the reality as outlined in my first sentance. Jerry is a snake. Makes perfect sense why he was put in charge of the diamondbacks.

Re: Let's Talk About Bryan & Jerry Colangelo and What to Expect Going Forward
I hope they make good decisions and succeed. This is about a lot more than some fans' disdain for the new management. I just want to see the Sixers competing at a very high level. I'd be OK with Derozan and even Conley so long as we get Ingram to play the three. Otherwise if we draft Simmons that changes things.
I personally don't think Hinkie was quite ready to compete this coming year, but I have to imagine we will be doing a lot to assemble a team that may be playoff bound. But this is a pretty hard situation to botch. There will be a few head scratchers, but let's just let it play out a bit before jumping the gun. Let's face it though, most of the guys currently on the team we knew would not be a part of our core meant to contend.

We Need a SG that can light it up. I would rather gamble on a Bradley Beal or Harrison Barnes than DeRozan. He is a solid player but will all our bigs you have to have players at the 1-3 that can shoot from the outside and open up space for the bigs.

For those that know the Colangelo's well, which of our bigs are most likely to stay and fit their scheme? Out of Okafor, Noel, Embiid and Saric

BC loves shooting Euros. Saric is a keeper.
Okafor it really depends on who was leaking the stories Hinkie or JC. I think it was JC. Sam doesn't leak stuff to the media so these stories of shopping Okafor probably came from JC.
Embiid wasn't a JC or BC pick. Sam had a lot more invested in his success. I think they'll likely keep him because getting value from him VIA a trade will be difficult.
Noel will likely be kept if they move Okafor.
