Jerry Colangelo recused himself from the Philadelphia 76ers' search for a general manager to work with Sam Hinkie and would have been fine with Danny Ferry over his son, Bryan Colangelo.

Bryan Colangelo badly wanted to be hired by the Brooklyn Nets and never wanted the 76ers' job. Bryan Colangelo wanted to avoid working in the shadow of his father amid claims of nepotism.

But the 76ers' ownership convinced Bryan Colangelo he was the best candidate available.

Colangelo has had success with both the Phoenix Suns and Toronto Raptors.

For all the talk about Byron Colangelo only getting this job because of his father, according to Woj, he didn't even want this job and even his dad, Jerry, actually preferred Ferry rather than hiring his son.

You do know he didn't get the Nets job right? I'm sure BC would have liked to get another opportunity without his father but he also didn't seem to want to put the work in and rebuild himself into the kind of candidate worthy of another opportunity.

I mean take a look around the league how many GM's who flopped as badly as BC did in TOR are sitting out there waiting for jobs to come to them? They take Assistant GM jobs. Glenn Grunwald went off to be an assistant GM with the knicks before getting a opportunity at GM. Babcock is an assistant GM of the Wolves.

They don't play Mr. Mom waiting for the next opportunity to fall from the sky.

Hinkie or without Hinkie, we aren't looking to tank again next season. And let's face it, BC and JC duo might do a better job for phase 2 going forward.

It just seem so planned out with how Hinkie has written his resignation letter, the zach lowe interview and how quick the BC hiring..just the timing of phase 2 in general and how this sudden exit somehow not giving THAT ownership to hinkie since he didn't see it thru (brett brown reference).

There really isn't any reason to believe that BC will do better at phase 2 than Hinkie.

Hinkie wasn't hired to do just phase 1. He was hired to be the GM. They have ripped it away from him half way through after incredible success.

I still can't believe that the worst case scenario literally played out.

That doesn't mean that we are doomed because we are in such a great spot right now, but my optimism has tanked. I don't want anyone another than Hinkie drafting or making trades. JC was already here to handle the free agent schmoozing if need be.

It was so unnecessary to usurp Hinkie's power like this, and comically it was to bring in his own son. How the hell do they let him do this?

Why would Bryan want to work as a co-GM with HInkie over being the main guy in Brooklyn. As soon as Hinkie steps down, of course he'd take the Sixers GM. We are in a much better part of a rebuild.

I feel for you guys. I believed Hinkie was steering you in the right direction. This draft had the potential to be a great achievement for him. Seems like ownership mucked this one up for you fans...

He will be gone soon. The man made his mistakes but he wasn't awful. I wouldn't mind him coming to Boston in some capacity if he would accept a lesser role. But he will be ousted and then it will be another bull corrupt hire in D'antoni instead of a smart move like getting Thibs somehow.

how did you think this was going to end, told you when jc was hired that hinkies
days were numbered,no team can tank this many years just not a good practice
for the fans, players,or the other teams in the league.Lets just move forward
and try to start playing basketball and winning games again.

Until they promote D'Antoni and name Brown 'Head of Adorable Accents.'

What a sham.

People would sell their kidneys to have the chance to run an NBA franchise with the assets they have at their disposal right now. Starting from the ground up. "How about my son?"

Just piping in a second. I think the league office had alot to do with this. I think they forced Colangelo on you. Tanking is good for rebuilding teams, but it is bad for the league in general (league office viewpoint, I am guessing). I will be quiet now.

It's simpler to remove the exploiter than fix the system that he is exploiting. They just needed an in.
