This has been a puzzling move that has left us wondering all season long ever since Kevin McHale was unceremoniously dumped.
I personally believe that the Rockets have either JVG or Thibs on deck; but neither one of them wanted to walk into a situation where they inherited a team 11 games into a season while replacing a guy whom they both liked and respected. I think that JBB has just been a placeholder, but due to his diligence and work history with the Rockets he was given the chance to show what he could do. Unfortunately, it has not worked out. He's stumbled a lot, but he has a future in this League, and ultimately this will be a good highlight on JBB's resume (being this young and getting a shot).
I think that the Rockets next coach will be a major decision, and I can't see someone of the pedigree we are discussing wanting to jump into the fray without any say-so in how the team is built.
Yeah, most good coaches want a full training camp with a new team. I think JBB was the only option. He was held in high regards around the league apparently, he's just not ready, it didn't work out

I think coach will be part of the Durant conversation. JBB had a good shot and it fell apart. I imagine he'll land as an assistant somewhere.
