Re: Let's Talk About Bryan & Jerry Colangelo and What to Expect Going Forward
I did not want to start a new thread about this so I will just put it here.
A lead article on Realgm is the leaked Hinkie letter.
If Jerry was responsible for this being leaked it is a real POS move.
Even though it took a while to get used to, it was cool seeing things about the 76ers only as it related to actual news stories about the team.
Fans and media had to think and discuss what they thought was going on, people actually had to investigate and not be hand fed every thing about the organization.
Now in the days since Hinkie "steped down". There has been a circus like atmosphere about the team.
"He said this and he said that, he did not want to do this and wanted to do that!"
Which is all BS and is probably a prelude to the type of carnival type atmosphere, when it comes to news, that this organization will now have.
We are zagging when we should be zigging!
And another thing. If you are are a grown 50 year old man and you need your father to hook you up with a job...not an interview for a job, but an actual job in a unique organization. You really need to really look at yourself and wonder if you actually have the skills and the know how to do the job.

You want it to be one way....but it's the other way.

Re: Let's Talk About Bryan & Jerry Colangelo and What to Expect Going Forward
Im certainly nervous.....but then again, this has been the most brutal stretch of Sixers basketball in quite some time. Despite our cap space and assortment of future picks, Things can not get much worse TBH.
Just gonna sit back, have a drink, hope for luck in the lottery and see how things unfold. They built a hell of a roster in Phoenix, and while I'm no fan of some of the short sighted moves BC gambled on in Toronto, He did draft DeRozan and traded for Lowry which has turned them into a top 5 seed. Rudy Gay didnt pan out, but at 1 time he was viewed as a budding young star.

Re: Let's Talk About Bryan & Jerry Colangelo and What to Expect Going Forward
I was living near Detroit from 2002-2010 and saw how a GM can have some success with one strategy and then think that he's got the Midas touch. In 2004 or so, people were praising Dumars as some sort of visionary genius--the guy who signed Chauncey, traded for Ben Wallace and Rip, stole Rasheed!, etc. He was batting like .800 overa few years and it seems like he convinced himself that he had a brilliant unstoppable plan--go out and find under-valued veterans and trust that you know which ones will turn into stars.
We know how that turned out--from 2006-2010, he made a series of unbelievably bad moves that squandered the resources he had and capped the team out. Signed Ben Gordon and Villanueva, flipped Chauncey for aging AI, kept Rip too long, traded Middleton/Knight for B Jennings, Afflalo for nothing, etc. It turns out that finding under-valued guys is really really hard, because other teams aren't stupid and no one simply overlooks a budding star or potential all-star in a multi-billion dollar business. He more or less just got lucky with Chauncey, Ben, etc, and convinced himself it was his special snowflake vision that was responsible, and not the hard work and talent of those guys that finally shined after hiding itself.
I'm worried that the Colangelo will have the same issue. He made some very successful moves in PHX and TOR, but they were realistically just calculated gambles that happened to pay off. I'm concerned that he'll think that every guy he kind of likes will be Kyle Lowry, or that every young guy he trades for will be Joe Johnson. So he'll be much more gung-ho about giving up resources to follow his intuition, or he'll be too confident about his ability to get the draft right (which, as history has made abundantly clear, no GM should ever ever do!).

I'm sure he needed convincing on the Sixers job as a co-GM with Hinkie instead of THE guy on the Nets. I bet he got rock hard as soon as Hinkie stepped down.

Re: Let's Talk About Bryan & Jerry Colangelo and What to Expect Going Forward
Oh look.
It'll be just like old times.
We'll be giving Greg Buckners 6 year contracts and trading 1st Round Picks for jump-shooting (bad jump-shooting) under-sized PFs like Kenny Thomases and drafting Jiri Welsh, Jason Smith, and Dalembert, and Claxton soon.
Then we'll trade everyone for Jeff Teague and Anare Stoudamire and draft some 7 ft jump-shooting SF from Eastern Europe.
Can you describe the ruckus?
Why can't Ed Snider buy the 76ers and make Pat Croce the boss again.

I expect to go back towards the old school direction and not put so much emphasis on analytics. I'm not upset that we've made a change, its HOW we made the change that has me so angry.

For what it's worth BC makes a lot of appearances on a sports radio show here in toronto and i've noticed that he really puts an emphasis on analytics in his discussions. Idk it seems like he stepped back and studied the game while he was away since 2013

I expect them to construct a pretty good team -- 45-50 wins or so -- in the next 4 years, but one that will never win a championship.

I'm willing to see what the colangelos can do. They were the architects of the Steve Nash Suns which is one of my favorite teams I've ever watched play in the nba, and the predecessor of the modern style of basketball.

BC loves shooting Euros. Saric is a keeper.
Okafor it really depends on who was leaking the stories Hinkie or JC. I think it was JC. Sam doesn't leak stuff to the media so these stories of shopping Okafor probably came from JC.
Embiid wasn't a JC or BC pick. Sam had a lot more invested in his success. I think they'll likely keep him because getting value from him VIA a trade will be difficult.
Noel will likely be kept if they move Okafor.
Thank you for your insight man! I like the sound of all of that to be honest. Don't think big Jah is a good fit here. I'd prefer keeping the other 3 and hoping Embiid stays healthy. Based on their draft history I'm not too worried we can come out with some nice talent. Just hope we land a top 2. Do you imagine he'd go for a player like Simmons or Ingram? Probably too hard to say.

Re: Let's Talk About Bryan & Jerry Colangelo and What to Expect Going Forward
what to expect? remember this, 7 years from now, when he runs out of excuses and you think youve heard everything
you will hear him say something, its sounds something like "ahabaosa", and you will not know what it is, you will think that word does not even exist, that is invented. But actually it does exist, and the word will be
garbajosa
which is a translation from spanish "tiratriples piesdeplomo", translated back to shakespeare english means "that of low calcium content that launches franchises into despair and used to be an adventurer until it took an al jefferson to the knee" (it really means all that)
also i want to advise people not to use the expression "collon-jello", as is copyrighted by someone from the raptors board and he actually sues people that use it out of that board (i have an special permit just for today)

I can't believe in this day and age nepotism still exists at a sporting franchise worth this much money. It is unfathomable that as the 6ers you don't go through a tedious and extensive hunt to replace your GM. No due dilligence was done here. It just shocks me that harris let this happen. He cleary has no idea or doesn't care because he's going to sell up soon. I just hope that BC doesnt stuff up our future or all of the pics / assets that have been given to him on a silver platter. I'll be ready to call it quits if he ruins this teams potential.

Another bad thing about all this, is that the Colangelo's are going to feel pressure from the fans to make immediate change. So instead of continuing to be smart & patient they will turn it all to ****.
I still don't know why so many people seem to want to trade Okafor.

I'm looking forward to getting players who can actually play.....there's nothing wrong with trading for 25-28 year olds....doesn't mean you're looking for a quick fix.
