Either His Story or History
Neddy wrote:let the kid finish the game on a high note and don't repeat what Dave did with Wood. Ross is a kid at his major league debut. he's gone 7 incredible shut out innings. what else does Dave want? he has been missing his location for the last two innings now. his biggest knock in the minors was his control. let him get outta there with his head up high. he is a KID who needs CONFIDENCE. his stuff is proven.
The kid has a chance at history. It would bother him for the rest of his life to leave the game before seeing it through. Stripling would be asking "what if" throughout his career and could resent Dave Roberts and maybe even the Dodgers for it. His manager is communicating to him that he has faith in the kid to pull through even as he is battling a little bit. This may help him in the long-run. Even if he somehow loses this game, people can still point to his 7 innings as something to be proud of and as a foundation to improve upon.
There are some things more valuable than a win and a confidence-builder with his manager having faith in a young pitcher is one of those things.

but if he blows right here, he could be resenting his manager for the rest of his life as this could be the only cup of coffee and he could have been a regular in our rotation if he ended his debut with a 7 inning shutout.

Stripling Pulled with No-Hitter on the Line
I personally wish Dave would have left Ross in there, but I can't complain given the weather conditions and his struggles. Dave certainly gave him a chance to settle down and he didn't. I'm disappointed, but I can't say that it was the wrong call.

Re: 2016 Regular Season Thread
good call Dave. Ross stil have a shot to win this game, and Chris Hatcher comes in with one out with one on. I think it is one base runner too late but I like the fact that Dave didn't wait until it was a few more runners on bases like Alex last night.
PS- I still stand by my pre-game assessment that Ross makes better starter than Alex. but I still also think Alex is the better pitcher than Ross in less than 3 innings. Alex has better top two pitches with more experience. Ross has better top go to pitch with more to his arsenal.

because if we win here, we have preserved the work Ross has done up to now.
and if we lose .we have preserved Ross' confidence up to now.
which now looks like its about confidence of young ross than winning today.
but imagine if that HR was given up by Ross. all the work he has done up until now would have been in vain.

If he's going to complain about his manager leaving him in a game without asking to leave, I wouldn't want him on this team. If you don't think you can go any further, then communicate that to your manager.
We better win this game for him...and just as I type this, Hatcher gives up a homer to tie the game and erase the decision from Stripling's record.

Re: 2016 Regular Season Thread
Hatcher's **** was on point….low in the zone.
the ump kept calling that **** a ball.
throws a fast ball slightly higher than where he was consistently hitting, ball is taken out the park.
FOH!

I stand by this decision. baseball is a long season. Ross has gone to the dugout knowing he has pitched beyond anyone's expectation. now he is sitting wondering if he could have shut them out this inning too.
that is confidence building. we have not lost the game. but whether we win or not, we have a young kid in the dugout thinkig he belongs here and trusting in his stuff. I expect better command the next time.
ehhhhh f it.

how do you figure that when there is only one out? GIDP is not exactly a guaranteed play.
