Crazy thought
I know we are all happy - we made the playoffs, RJ is playing like we were hoping he would, Morris is much better than expected, Harris fit in so quickly, KCP's D is making him very legit, and Drummond is a monster. So most likely someone as smart as SVG is going to keep this core, add some better backups, and expect to get better next year. But I have a radical thought, one that was tossed around on the site earlier this year, and one that we may consider more seriously after the playoffs.
Maybe we trade Drummond? I know this is a CRAZY thought, but if he can't hit his free throws, he can't play the 4th quarter, and if he can't play the 4th quarter, just how valuable is he? If he could shoot 70% FT, he could be getting 30p-20r-5b games. But he can't, so he doesn't.
I'm not even sure what fair value would be. Cousins would be interesting, and would be a great fit offensively. He would certainly demand double teams, he's a good passer out to the one of our 3pt shooters, and he makes his foul shots (or at least better than Drummond, but who doesn't?). Defensively and rebounding wise, we would lose something of course. But net-net, would we be better off?

Re: Crazy thought
What he could bring here? I doubt we would win in that trade, so keep the big man.
If he can bring us DMC, maybe I would think about it, but I think still the smartest move is keep him at least two years more. If he's healthy, he's going to be a very valuable asset, so wait until we see him reach his full potential.
No offense but, all our mods seems like they hate (I know hate is not the word, but love to use internet language) a little bit this team or some players at least. Pharaoh for mod run now!!!

Re: Crazy thought
It's a real hard one because Dre is key for this team to be legit.
I love what Dre brings, but he's still got a lot to work on and it's hard to say whether he'll ever reach his potential.
FTs are the obvious problem, but his defence is still very suspect and his post game is limited (his hook shot has been a welcome addition)
I'd be very hesitant to trade him. His physical ability is off the charts and he's leading the league in double doubles for a reason.
I want to see him develop though. He's not going to be able to do the things he does now for too long. He needs to add some fundamentals.
Getting cousins is such a tantalising prospect. He's got the full arsenal on offence and when he's switched on he's capable defensively.
He has his attitude issues, but he could really thrive under svg.
I dunno. There's so much potential loss or potential gain... I'll leave it to svg hahaha as usual I've offered nothing

They told me It was shameful opening a thread asking for Drummond trade value... Good luck to you

Re: Crazy thought
Been saying it for years Drummond for Cousins would change this franchise overnight
Two trades and we are set:
Meeks, Bullock, Anthony for Bass, Lou Williams
Drummond, Tobias for Gay, Cousins
Sign Lin and Tolliver
Reggie / Lin - Dinwiddie
KCP / Lou Williams - Hilliard
Gay / Stanley
Mook / Bass - Tolliver
Cousins / Baynes
Cousins + Reggie are our offensive threats with Mook and Gay shouldering the load when they are off
Our bench would absolutely be insane
Yeh we have to give up Drummond+Tobias but this trade puts us in the top 4 in the East
That being said I would be happy if we kept our roster mainly intact but traded Meeks and signed Lin and Teletovic and called it an offseason

Re: Crazy thought
I want no part of Gay. I don't want Gay even near to Michigan. Every team he left improves magically.
The trade with the Lakers is awful too. Dellavedova and Lin are great great players for the sixth man role, but they will got better offers in terms of money and to compete.
I would give 12 per year to Dellavedova or Lin anyway, but I think this is going to be a crazy crazy summer.
Drummond for Cousins I think I would say yes, but that needs to be a very tough and studied decision

I would trade Dre and a 1st for Cousins and Gay. I wouldn't want to lose Tobias. That team would be awesome offensively with Morris and SJ off the bench.
Bosnian Curry and Lin would be nice too

What part of the Lakers deal is awful?
We exchange an always injured Meeks on an expiring deal and Reggie Bullock for Lou Williams and Brandon Bass, two productive players making less than 10M a year
Lou Williams would be the best SG back up we've had in the past 10 years

I bet SVG would kill Lou or commit suicide watching Lou's decision making and shot selection.

This team is build around Drummond, Towns or Cousins ain't walking through the door. We are not going to get a better C than Drummond anytime soon and SVG won't trade him for lesser players.

Re: Crazy thought
That's some real out of the box thinking there. Drummond does presently struggle with free throws, but so did Ben Wallace. Drummond needs to mature. He needs to and will get pass that mental block that makes him mope around like the donkey from the winnie the pooh cartoon. When he does, he will be one of the most dominate if not the most dominant big in the game. I want him in Detroit when that happens.

Yeah but Drummond shoots significantly more free throws and is more involved in the offense than Ben Wallace was.
Andre struggling with free throws is an understatement.
I don't think we should trade him, I can't see us getting fair value in return. Cousins is a nutcase.

Re: Crazy thought
The thing with Drummond is, as a Maximum contract player he's going to get a lot of hate if he can't get his FTs to 50% next year and he doesn't "bring it" on a nightly basis. If he's going to get paid to be the man, he had better become the man. I think no matter what, we will be resigning him this offseason and if things don't improve for him he'll likely have a hard contract to move anyways so we'd get almost nothing in return value much like how Orlando didn't get return value on Tobias.... But if Dre can give us 18 and 15 with improved FT shooting and better team defense than he'll be well worth that max contract.

Re: Crazy thought
I want no part of cousins on this team. Cousins, simply put, is an idiot. He throws temper tantrums left, right and center, he's fought with every coach he's had (and gotten most of them fired), he is a selfish player despite those assist numbers (because assists is never a good way to determine unselfishness), etc.
You don't think there's a reason he puts up superstar numbers but his team is always one of he worst in the league?

Re: Crazy thought
Another thing to consider is the likelihood that the NBA addresses the Hack a Shaq issue in the offseason. Silver does not seem happy with the widespread use of intentional fouling, and he isn't afraid to make changes. Drummond could be even more valuable if intentional fouling becomes less frequent. His poor free throw shooting won't be such a detriment if he's not hacked as much in the coming seasons.
I say max him out over 5 seasons and see what happens. He's only 22 and is worth the long-term investment. If for some reason it doesn't pan out we can deal with it down the road.

Yup, it sounds like the NBA will make a change next season based on Adam Silver's comments. That should lessen the impact of his poor FT shooting and hopefully allow him to play in the 4th quarter.
