I like D'Antoni, but no need to say someone doesn't have a clue...we all have our opinions, and many agree with his. Be civil.

I agree that we all have our opinions. I gave my opinion. Am I not entitled to MY OPINION?

I am personally offended reading the same untruths over and over. It is like the haters have something to prove and just make up stuff to make themselves feel good. I just don't get it.

There are a lot of good reasons to not hire MDA. Suggesting that he does not play youngsters is not one of them.

I really don't care who our new coach is, as long as we are fun to watch. If it is Watson, so be it. However, now I really want Sarver to hire MDA more than ever. I want to watch the epic meltdown on this board and every other Suns posting board on the internet. Add that to the to the upcoming potential brokered political conventions, it could be a lively summer.

Both of those events probably will be more entertaining that our Phoenix Suns, at least at this point in time.

Almost forgot, we also have the Olympics this summer.

I don't think he's earned a head coaching spot yet, or just learned enough about coaching. I am not terribly against him as head coach, but I'd definitely look at guys with more coaching experience first, but would love to retain him in some capacity, and lead assistant or at least one assistant would be my preference.

I want Mark Jackson or Monty Williams with Earl Watson as his lead assistant.

I know the Warriors have taken off with Kerr as head coach but I truly believe Mark Jackson helped in that locker room with the young players of how to "act" as an NBA player. And I think the Suns need that as much as an X's and O's strategist. Sure, if you can hire Brad Stevens that's great. But those guys are tough to "re-create."

So my two choices, Williams or Jackson with Watson as his lead assistant.

You are right. It is my opinion. That is all. Its your privilege to regard how you like. However, I spent alot of time watching the DAntoni coached Suns, nearly watched every game, so I do think I have a clue.

BTW. This is from DAntoni's own mouth.

“I don’t have anything against rookies at all, I like them,” D’Antoni said. “Jordan [Hill, the 7th pick in the draft that year for the Knicks ] was in a position, if you noticed, where we had Al [Harrington], Jared [Jeffries], David Lee, [Darko] Milicic for a while. We had about five guys. Rookies are usually in the pecking order of the last guy."

http://nypost.com/2010/03/22/dantoni-i-dont-like-to-play-bad-rookies/

Yes, that is right. In 2010 Mike DAntoni put Darko (2 ppg) and Jared Jeffries (5.5 ppg) ahead (in the rotation) of the pf they picked 7th in the draft.

My point stands. DAntoni will play who he thinks will give him the best chance of winning the game at hand. In his mind, rookies are the lowest in the pecking order. I contend that the next coach will have to play rookies and younger players at the expense of winning for the purpose of development. DAntoni does like to do that. Nothing wrong with that, its just not what this team needs at this stage.

Also. If a player doesn't fit DAntoni's system, you might as well trade him. You would likely have to say goodbye to Len and likely Chandler. I don't see them in a DAntoni system. If you go with DAntoni, you have to be all in his way.

As long as were rebuilding with young players, Watson should stay as HC. Give him a two year contract, and a decent assistant coach.

Never thought of Monty Williams. I wouldn't mind him at all. I think Gentry is a good coach, but obviously the Pelicans were MUCH worse with him than Monty. I know they dealt with injuries, but they did last year and with AD there is no way you should be THAT bad. No thanks on Mark Jackson though.

I guess the thing that turns me off about Jackson is how much better the Warriors were after he was fired, with essentially the same personnel. Can we get Kerr?

Maybe Walton, but I doubt he leaves a juggernaut to come aboard a sinking ship

We are sinking? A host of young talent, picks galore, and we are sinking? This is the perfect opportunity for a coach to be a legend.

I always knew there was something wrong with his coaching. He always kept playing his best players and tried to win games. Why would anyone have him as coach? I guess all you need to do is play youngsters, after all that is how Popovich coaches. Phil Jackson is another great example of playing rookies.

I guess I just wasn't as observant as you were. I missed all of those great players that just sat on the bench while he coached in Phoenix.

I know for sure that you did not watch more games than I watched or more minutes of action than I did during his tenure in Phoenix. I watched every minute, no exception.

By the way, I would appreciate a list of the guys that Mike did not play along with their accomplishments with other teams after they left the Suns. I am sure other coaches realized their potential and coached them up. How many of those guys signed max contracts after they left the Suns?

I was thrilled to be reminded about how he missed out on that hall of famer Jordan Hill. Hill is having a great year this year. He is at 8.9 points per game. That is above his career average of 8.0 per game. Yeah Mike really missed on that potential hall of famer. That guy has turned into a real player. He has how many all star teams? I think it is several. I also have heard he is considered a first ballot hall of famer when he gets nominated.

I want to see more examples of how MDA mismanaged youngsters in both NYK and Los Angeles.

Give me some more examples.

I can't wait.

I want to see more examples of how MDA mismanaged youngsters in both NYK and Los Angeles.

Give me some more examples.

I can't wait.

OK. I don't think I need to say any more. This type of sarcasm is no argument. I am fine with letting anyone who wants read those two posts and decide which way they would prefer to go.

It is far more than sarcasm. It is highlighting the facts, which you seem to ignore or twist to fit your argument.

The boys at PhxSuns.net are not buying your arguments either. They provide the facts, not just their opinion. It is more than one of them as well. You seem to be the lone ranger over there. JMO

Re: The Next Head Coach

I'm not sure if I would want D'Antoni or not.

When I think of a team with Bledsoe, Booker, TJ (or even PJ), Leuer (or Telly), and then Chandler (or Len), that sounds like a roster fit pretty well for him. Everyone can hit the 3 except the man in the middle.

Knight has the ability as well.

I am pretty confident that if players tried to play too much iso they would sit too, so when Knight (and even Bledsoe) went to these tendencies, they would sit (like he sat Marbury), and likely not play until we had a lot of ball movement with the ball whipping around the perimeter.

He made Raymond Felton a pretty damn good PG when he coached him in NY (17 and 9) which he has never done elsewhere. His system was never going to work in LA with Kobe being so ISO oriented. It actually seemed to work best when Kobe suddenly decided to turn into a facilitator, but D'Antoni's system was not going to work with their personnel. Wrong coach there.

With D'Antoni you NEED the right roster. I think we could have a pretty good roster that could fit his playing style, so it might be interesting.

I'm still not sure he'd be my choice though, but it wouldn't bother me if it was him.

I believe he transformed the NBA, but now that other teams have taken that system and added defensive players who can pass, shoot 3s, etc, it's going to be tough to compete with those (of course I'm talking about SA/GS, two of the best teams ever) but still.

I am guessing it would be a lot more fun to watch than whatever we've been watching the past 6 years though.
