Could he benefit from college ? Sure, but honestly honing his skills in the dleague would be better for his development. Being coached by actually pros/ skill developments guys and having league trainers is better than 5 monthes playing in NCAA which has entirely different rules than the NBA

Also the "kd Garnett" comps need to stop, he isn't that sort of can't miss prospect . It's lazy to say this because that hype died a long time ago, still a very good prospect. He has upside in both ends of the floor, enough to be selected 20-30.

Yeah Thon plays in the hardest prep circuit and generally gets his ass kicked.

Have anything to substantiate this claim?

I got the info literally for. Realgm.Com roster section lol. Site needs b update

With that said my point stands. Of all hose guys there are 4 that are in the sameleague as he is athlete wise and one seriously might nothink ever play an NBA games 7 footers who run the floor like 6'4 guards do not grow on trees. I could care less that he isn't as good a ball handler or shooter as his videos suggest

He's old for his class, it's probably best he goes in the draft as early as possible, because that age number affects what people think about your upside, quite a bit, even if it's unfair to.

whitehops wrote:ah yes, the intriguing KD/giannis/porzingis/dirk comparisons.

i could talk about this for a while so i'm only going to touch on a few points.

first, his shot. not only does he not look natural when he shoots, but he shot 32% from the high school 3-point line. that is mediocre at the high school level, and the nba line is considerably farther back. he also only shoots ~70% from the line so his shot has a ways to go to be effective from 3 at the nba level. to even remotely compare his shot to porzingis, dirk or KD coming out is ridiculous.

second, his level of competition. he's essentially playing AAU ball against kids that are younger than him. if he went to college he would've at least been playing structured ball against his peers (and guys a couple years older). he could've learned how to actually play a little bit of fundamental ball. even the tier 2 or tier 3 leagues in europe blow the high school competition out of the water.

he seems to play hard which is a good sign for his development, because he's gonna need a whole bunch of development before he contributes in the nba. i'm not saying a team won't draft him at x spot because it only takes one team, all i know is he won't be in a team's rotation for a few years at least.

if i had to guess now i think it's much more likely his career goes the way of jonathan bender, anthony randolph, perry jones, austin daye or the many other tall and skilled players that got hyped up in high school than KD/giannis/porzingis/dirk.

You say Jonathan Bendee...do you think he is going to have severe knee issues? Because that is what happened to him

Well he was drafted to a pretty stacked team and got almost no playing time his first year and then the knee issues starting flaring up, so we really have no idea how he would have done without the injuries. He never really even got to put much work in during offseasons with the injury issues.

Like Jon Bender, Maker is very talented and very unskilled. Maker like Bender is a smart person. No offense but Anthony Randolph was a dumb Basketball player. I seen college players like Shawn Long smarter than him.

He was never that good. Even when he blew up as this supposed force of nature who was 7' and could shoot...he was a 29% 3 pt shooter that year in high school. Someone will take him before pick 25 though.

He pulled out of the Nike Hoops Summit too. Would have liked to see him against some other top players but said he was too tired...

Guess none of the prospects were tired tho...seems scared to play against the comp

Probably doesnt want anyone to see a repeat of this.

Just think of the guy he was going against this year was an actual offensive threat too.

These types of videos are misleading as Thon is hardly going to be a banger; he's an open court free baller that uses his height / speed / skill combo to score rather than post up strength.

Like a 7ft TJ Warren.

I'm absolutely stunned that Thon Maker did not play in the Biosteel All-Canadian Classic this week. /s

He could fall hard and go undrafted, this year's group of bigs is really deep

Right? This years group IS really deep. Very unlikely he goes undrafted with his tools though.

Right now I'd say AJ Hammons, but other guys have potential

I guess this year's group is deep... as in there are high numbers of players applying to the draft at those positions... but not deep as in the talent being full and plentiful.
