After all of the pain and agony we suffered this season, we're gonna end up with the 5th or 6th pick in the draft. I'm calling it.

This Draft is the best one to have that type of issue, falling in the lotto, it is a weird Draft, with not much top talent but everything really even-ed out, so if you have good eye you can get a better guy at 5-6 than at 3-4.

Fischella, what power forward would you take with the 5th pick?

Absolutely. The only time I ever remember one of our picks moving up in the lottery it was the Atlanta pick and we lost it because it became a top 3. That was absolutely horrible luck but that is how we roll in the lottery.

Still have to go through who is in and who is not, but for the Suns and the particular typology of the roster, I think Chriss

Thanks. Yep, I was thinking Chriss too. Chriss or Rabb, but the former would be a better fit here with his ability to shoot from the range.

A lot better shot blocker too. If Len and/or Tyson can keep pulling down monster rebounding #s, his rebounding deficiencies wouldn't stand out as much, and the rest of our team rebounds fairly well too. I expect he gets better with rebounding, positioning, boxing out, etc too since he's only played ball a couple years. Fouling is an obvious problem too though, so a frontcourt of him and Len could lead the league in fouls as a frontcourt.

I like Rabb better than Chriss, but not for PHX and is fairly close, so...

I'd get Bender ahead of both tho.

I don't have any clue about Bender.

I agree that Chriss will go ahead of Sabonis, but I like Sabonis better than either Chriss or Rabb. Call me crazy.

Did any of those hiper-tall players ever have a successful career in the NBA outside of Yao Ming?

There are not that many to begin with. You'd have to calculate the proportion of giants who became good at basketball and compare to the average tall guys' odds at success.

I obviously have no idea of what the conclusion is.

But Gobert is also freakishly long. IIRC, he has the record of standing reach at the Combine

I think the Washington pick is a no brainer. Gotta go with that Furkan Korkmaz. Think of the memes, people.

Sabonis is better as a soph than those guys were as freshman. He made major strides. Both those guys were probably better as freshmen than he was. But he can't block shots or shoot with range (but I think he would probably develop that). I think he is the highest iq player with the highest floor.

Rabb is similar in that he is a good rebounder, post player, but not a great shot blocker and has zero range. He is strictly a post player...that is why he is lower on my list, because we need an open floor.

Rabb does also have higher floor than Chriss. Chriss has the lowest floor but highest ceiling imo because he is a super athlete and can block shots and shoot 3s. So he has the raw traits of an Ibaka type, and could be a great defender as well. But there are problems...fouling, rebounding and potentially iq, but he has only played basketball for a couple years.

Honestly I kind of wish we could end up with both Sabonis and Chriss....they provide alternate looks strengths/maturity...one is safer and one is more of a high upside high risk type.

If we end up at 6 and 12, I think Sabonis is likely available at 12 or 13, so I might take Chriss first.

For what it's worth, I received a PM from someone who watches a TON of european basketball and he says comparing what Bender did or is doing this year to what KP did last year is ridiculous, because it is like comparing a young raw prospect on the Houston Rockets this year who is struggling to make the playoffs and his team is therefore not playing young guys with potential, to a guy who is putting up great stats at Eastern Kentucky because that team is where it is and isn't going anywhere.

Several BIG steps down from Euroleague, which Bender's team was in but got relegated out (and is still eager to get back to that power house status)....but KP's team still isn't close to on par...tried to compete for Eurocup (next best league after Euroleague) but couldn't cut it there and just plays in domestic ACB league in Spain and almost got relegated out of that domestic league. I'm not sure I have all the details of the latter part correct, but that is my understanding.

I had been asking questions in the draft forum about the different tiers of leagues in europe so I got a long PM from someone.

Furkan is the real deal, I wouldn't be surprised if we took him.

But then we'll have suddenly translated our PG logjam to a SG logjam... lol.
