With Stone, you can't forget that he turned 19 in February - and that he's got excellent measurements - which led to good shot-blocking numbers. He's got to improve his defensive rebounding, but he's a good offensive rebounder. Speights' college numbers were fairly similar to Stone's. Speights has had a terrible problem with fouling in the NBA. That and conditioning.

I don't see it. Stone is a much better athlete and Speights has more range on his shot. Stone can shoot with either hand in the post and while he's still raw, he has pretty good footwork. He needs to add 20 pounds of muscle, drop some of the baby fat and obviously improve big-time on the defensive side and the boards. If Stone wants it, he can be more than just a good backup big but it will take some time.

With Kaindoh's commitment, Maryland football's 2017 recruiting class rises to No. 20 in the National 247Sports Composite Rankings, and that's with only seven commits on board -- tied with a few other schools for the lowest total among the top 20 classes. For the non-recruitniks reading this, that means Maryland's ratings are the product of quality rather than quantity; according to the ratings, the Terps' average committed recruit trails only nine of those schools: Texas A&M, Florida State, North Carolina, Georgia, Clemson, Alabama, Notre Dame, Oklahoma and Ohio State.

That's lofty company for a Maryland program that struggled to build any real momentum under Randy Edsall, one that's coming off a 3-9 season and has a brand new coaching staff.

Back to Kaindoh. The 6-foot-6, 256-pounder is regarded as the nation's No. 1 weakside defensive end, but he could easily grow into a strongside defensive end by the time his college career starts. Maryland is also pursuing DeMatha defensive end Chase Young, regarded by some as the most gifted pass-rusher in the 2017 class, and the Terps have a commitment from four-star defensive tackle Cam Spence -- Kaindoh's fellow Baltimore native and his teammate at IMG Academy (Fla.).

Hate to be Debbie Downer, but it's only a verbal commitment. He's reportedly still taking visits. As the season wears on and the Terps may be languishing below or at .500, 'bama and OSU start looking really good.

Ask Haskins who, if rumors are to be believed, probably would've flipped regardless of the coaching switch.

Of course it's just a verbal commitment.

That's better than the alternative.... :D

His stats are only so-so, and he has only 1 year of eligibility. Looks like he has 3 point range and reasonably efficient scorer - but... very low steals and blocks numbers and not a high scorer or rebounder (assuming he's a PF). Listed at 6'8 220.

Robert Carter Jr had a very good Day One at the NBA combine. He scored well inside and out, rebounded well, and played solid defense.

Read the glowing media reports compiled by the Post, this gives further credence to the view that Turg is NOT a good coach and that this years Terps under-performed big time. I often thought that Carter/Stone should have been much better utilized. Carter just played is way into being picked in the 2nd round.

Yep.

Assuming we can get a 2nd rd pick or he goes undrafted, Carter Jr is someone I'd like the Wiz to consider.

I still think Carter is a tweener but sure, maybe the lack of playing with a pass-first point guard hurt him. He was certainly impressive in Day One and he is pretty skilled. I heard somebody call him a poor man's Millsap. Maybe there is something to that but to me, he's playing his a-s-s off because this his career depends on it. Didn't exactly do that at Maryland.

The Wizards did talk with him. They're seemingly interested.

Wouldn't it be interesting if Carter gets drafted and Trimble doesn't? I'm hearing Trimble doesn't want to come back to Md.

Andy Katz just tweeted that Trimble says it is a 50-50 chance he returns.

Trimble had a decent Day 2.
