There are opposing players whom I like, wish well in retirement, etc. Duncan is an obvious example. Ditto Dirk (my parents were both born in Germany). Chris Bosh seems like an OK dude, and I feel sorry for him having life-threatening health issues. Etc.

And it shouldn't be taboo to feel that way about an excellent Laker. Magic Johnson oozed charisma. Kareem Abdul Jabbar is a complicated person one could realistically like. Jerry West seems pretty awesome.

But Kobe? He deserves respect, to be sure, but what's there to actually like about him?

The things I hate about Kobe, that I won't miss one bit. It's got to be a combination of his:
1) smug-ass face
2) ball-hogging chucker playing style
3) personal hype machine, beyond all reason
4) bull defensive player of the year awards
5) All Star appearances these last years when he played like deuce. Personally I'd be ashamed to take a All-Star spot from a peer that really deserved it because of moronic fan voting

One of these is not like the others:

Duncan
Dirk
Bosh
Kobe
Magic
Kareem
West

I'll give you a hint, one of them raped a woman.

Wish I could say that but he's a hardcore Smashing Pumpkins fan. I unfortunately cannot hate him because of that.

Spoiler:
**** him though.

Weird thread. Nothing wrong with respecting the opposition. We battled Kobe hard and didn't always win, so respect is due there. He's put together a top-20 of all time resume (even if there's some **** smeared all over it) so some respect is due there. Not "I like you" respect, just "you got us.. sometimes" respect.

That said I'm glad Kobe was too much of an arrogant prick to become all that he could have become, and I hope the way he's gone out tarnishes his legacy a bit. I say **** the Lakers because we have to and (even as I tip my hat to him) **** Kobe because he's a prick. I wouldn't say that about Magic, even if he's a gasbag.

Fun fact: Bill Russell and Larry Bird are the 'best' winners of all time in this sport. And IMO West and Magic are the only acceptable "I respect you.. and kind of like you" Lakers.

Not gonna lie, I got chills multiple times from the shots he was hitting in the last couple minutes.

You can't compare Kobe and Peyton. Peyton did not deserve many of his accolades. Kobe was a piece of crap and a bit of an attention-seeker but man, was he a bad mother****** on the court. Manning typically sucked his thumb when the going got tough. Peyton's superbowl this year is the equivalent of Kobe joining the Warriors as a 6th man, scoring 8 points a game, and winning a title.

Seriously. You can't compare those two people in any way.

idk. he dropped 60 on 50 shots in his last game ever. if preaching whatever 'old-school' (lololol) values is more important than blissful entertainment and enjoyment... Well, i feel sorry for those folks, I suppose.
