I don't understand why they don't just use the tiebreakers they use for playoff seeding.

I'm a Debbie downer. I'm fully expecting to pick #4 or #5.

God I hope we land in the top-2.

This is a very interesting and smart read based on facts.

Yeah, what kind of ridiculous system is this? Could get screwed on both seeding and the pick...

Oh man... Have you even seen Simmons play? He'll be one of the three most athletic PF's in the league from day one with the handle of a PG. What an atrocious comparison...

About to post the same thing. Dunleavy Jr. is an abysmal comp for Simmons.

There are 3 raw bigs with high upside that could be available with the Mavs pick (Maker, Skal, Stone)...I'd love to see Ainge snag one of these guys and let him develop for a year or 2...Could really pay off down the line

If Celts work out Bender and Hield and feel really confident that one or both of those guys will be an All-Star, then draft 1 of those guys. Otherwise, trade the pick all day long for a Jimmy Butler type. Go all-in for Durant and Banner 18....

I think Ainge ends up trading the Nets pick.

He'd have to find a buyer for that. Only scenario I see is rights to Dunn for Okafor. Butler isn't happening. Cousins probably not.

Maker probably doesn't belong in a group with those two. Most scouts seem to think his upside is far lower than either of those (Scal particularly). He might be a nice pick with one of the early seconds though since that's his likely range, and he won't cost rookie scale.

Maker won't last that long. Too much talent...and he's a worker. he will impress in workouts and go higher then you think...especially in this draft class. Book it

Just now, Thon Maker starts at #28 on NBAdraft.net, and #40 on DX. On April 4th Chad Ford put him at #23 to Boston.

Euro people. How does Bender rate as a prospect compared to my guy Mario Hezonja and Kristaps?

It's hard to separate what we know now versus when they were prospects, but that's what I'm more interested in right now than future projections of Bender.

He's the most talented Croatian prospect in a long long time. Compared to Porzingis I'd say he's comfortably better than Zinger was at his age but right now is slighty worse than KP was at last years draft which is remarkable because he has declared as a 18 year old with less senior basketball experience.

DX has us getting Valentine with the Dallas pick - I'd be stoked.

I'm guessing somebody with multiple first round picks will take a chance on him by the mid-teens, possibly us or Denver. Could even be Phoenix at 12, depending on workouts. Easier to swing for a home run with one of your multiple first rounders.

Some guys play bigger than their size, other guys smaller than their size. Simmons is one of the latter. It's not what the scale says, it's how he uses it that matters. The rebounds and FTA are nice, but aren't proxies for toughness or physicality. You can be a finesse rebounder (a la KG) or a finesse foul magnet at any size.

Laying the blame for lackadaisical effort on his college coach is lame. Simmons picked his coach, and it was in keeping with a long line of decisions, he picked a situation where he would not be challenged or threatened. One characteristic that tends to predict greatness is seeking out challenges, putting oneself in situations where you could possibly fail, and doing so because you wish to push yourself and grow. I don't see that characteristic in Ben and I wish I did. He's got way too many skills to be a bust but few of the mental characteristics that suggest he'll reach his potential. I like him A LOT and would enjoy the hell out of him if he played for the Cs (despite my skepticism that he'll ever reach his vast potential he remains the most purely exciting and fun to watch player in this draft) but he's not my #1 pick.

One comparison for Simmons would be Mike Dunleavy, Jr. without any shooting
.. Dunleavy had rave reviews coming out of college, was supposedly a do-everything player, and it just didn't translate.

Anyway I'm just frustrated in advance with this team's lotto luck, but with Hield, Bender and Dunn, we could have a lot of trade options on draft night. I think Okafor and Cousins will be the targets..

Yeah, good point- I mean it in the sense that Dunleavy (partly bc of athleticism) wasn't able to assert himself and influence the game in the same way in the pros, with Simmons it would be more mental/psychological than physical.. It's sort of like observing a similarity between Jeff Green (super-athletic) and Dunleavy- who turned into a really superb role-player, FWIW..

I would love to see Boston get Brice Johnson from NC with either the Dallas or our own pick.

Return to Boston Celtics
