I'm officially done with this team

Post#1 » by TGW » Thu Apr 14, 2016 5:03 pm

Yep, I've had enough.

I'm going to become a full-time San Antonio Spurs fan from here on out. I am flat-out tired of wasting time and money on the Washington Wizards. It's simply not worth it.

I like posting here, but as far as the team is concerned, I'm not going to post about them. I will continue to post in the politics thread, but that's about it. No more Wizards talk coming out of my mouth.

I hope they do better in the future, but it's clear that the ownership is stubborn, stupid, and the team will continue to be a laughingstock and a place that no one is going to come to unless they're vastly overpaid.

Anyway, I'm done. I didn't spend much on the team anyway, but now it's going from not much to zero....like my interest.

Peace

I was not into it this year. After the AS break I might have watched 2 full games. I would tape the games and then delete them most of the time. For the first time I didn't go to any games.

After EG blows this offseason on mediocre vets and gives Beal a max deal I doubt I will have any interest at all next season.

Grunfeld is going to get to use all our cap space on long term deals and hire the next coach

Wall era is more or less done depending on who gets signed.

I'll probably pay passing attention to the team and continue to post on this board, but I won't be buying NBA league pass next year. I might watch a few illegal streams of Wizards games, but for the most part, I'll be content to catch nationally televised games of actual good teams.

I am with you guys... I will watch a couple of games here and there... and keep an eye on the board lest M&H try to tell us how the plan is being executed to perfection :)

I wrote about it on the other thread about Grunfeld. I can't root for another team. I'm not going to give up 40+ years of anguish for another year of mediocrity just because I dislike the owner and GM. Wonder how many Skns fans have jumped off the bandwagon.

I think I'll become a magic fan. At least they try to build a team that can get to the finals.

I'm almost there, a lot of how I feel about this team will hinge on what happens with the Wizards front office and what approach they take in the offseason.

To clarify, can't imagine rooting for another team, but I'm not sure I can be bothered spending the time and money to follow this team like I have over the past 20 years either.

I successfully weaned myself off the Orioles during the late '90s/early '00s, when the Yanks poached most of the O's starting rotation, and Angelos started pinching pennies in order to sabotage any attempts to move a team to DC. The system was inherently unfair, and my team's owner was (in my mind) tanking for business reasons. Now, I rock an O's hat and a Nats hat occasionally, but I don't really know what's happening with either team until the playoffs. If they do well -- great! If they don't -- eh, whaddayagonnado.

But I don't love baseball the way I love basketball. And, unlike baseball, where the relative lack of revenue sharing and salary cap structures allow big market teams to reload after a mistake in ways that small market teams can't, basketball is closer to a meritocracy. Sure, the lottery introduces a huge element of luck, such that even poorly-run franchises like the Cavs can fall butt-backwards into contender status. But those are anomalies. For the most part, the smartest, best-run organizations do the best, and the least professional franchises sink to the bottom.

I'm an out-of-market fan, and I've converted my wife into becoming a fan as well, so I can't see myself letting go. Such is my lot. :-?
Always remember, my friend: the world will change again. And you may have to come back through everywhere you've been.

I will keep an eye on offseason and draft to see if any improvements are made. I really doubt things will improve though, not with EG at the helm. The past performance is enough to lead me to believe that. I cant see that he learned something new and will change his ways, in some way that will affect my decision, but we'll see. Having said that, I will not be tuning in to Wizards games as much. I dont think the glory days of 1978-1980 will be back anytime soon. 40 years of Wizards fandom...but its time to jump off the bandwagon. I live on the west coast, so its actually effort for me to be able to keep up with the Wizards. But I did so anyway, and caught more games than I care to admit. At this point, for next year, I will not be putting in as much effort, if any at all. If I catch them playing as I surf the channels, then so be it.
I see no reason to think we will not waste away Wall's prime years. We should probably trade him just so that he has an actual shot at the ring...it would be the humane thing to do.

I'll keep up with realgm, and the Wizards board. Probably will not post as much though.
Live long and prosper.

I'm basically done. Grunfeld spoils it all for me. Too many Summer's of crappy and lazy moves to patch up the roster to mediocrity.

I've been a fan of the Bullets/Wizards since '77-78. These are FAR from the worst of times. If I were to quit Bullets/Wizards fandom due to bad GM and coaching - or more to the point - ownership, I'da never gotten out of the 80s. Yeah it sucks, but Wittman is gone and hopefully EG won't be far behind.

Bullets, er, Wizards, um, forever...

This is where I am. I'm not going to pretend that I am no longer a fan, but I certainly am not going to spend any money on this team until they prove they are more than just an average team. I'll continue to tune into the games on TV, but if they are sucking wind again like this year, I will likely do it less frequently.

EG's press conference did make me sick though. That guy just never takes any responsibility, and certainly is never asked to.

It's interesting that TL is now in the same position that Snyder was in 2 years ago. Skins season ticket holders were refusing/balking at renewing due to 13 + years of Snyder incompetence. He surrendered and finally hired a competent GM and lo and behold, Skins are on to a solid rebuild and fans are optimistic again. TL will eventually come to the same conclusion (about EG) but probably not until enough season ticket holders are fed up enough to cancel. It's a shame TL has to be so pigheaded.

Good riddance.

The negativity against management and the team in general was nauseating. Pretty sure the Spurs won't mind one extra bandwagoner.

Through thick and thin, ups and downs, the Wizards fanbase is resilient. I forsee a turnover. The negative impatients who think a championship team is built overnight will leave while true fans who see the positve direction this team is headed will emerge.

Are these your own thoughts, or did you have to copy and paste from one of hands11's posts from BF? Just wondering, because your post gives off a mentally challenged vibe, much like Hands' posts.

Impatient?
I've been a fan since 1991. Our *best* (nod to you PIF) win total in the 25 years I've rooted for this team is 5 games over .500. Random blind squirrel chance should be better than that!
Making extreme statements like "only" sounds like there are "no" Jokics in this draft? Jokic is an engine that was drafted in the 2nd round. Always a chance to see diamond dropped by sloppy burgular after a theft.
