I give AJ Ellis a ton of chit on this forum but I'm not sure Grandal or Barnes are good enough to bring along Maeda (he gave Ellis credit at the end of the 1st game of this series) and Stripling like he has.

Seager's "Struggle" and Waiting for Barnes

Post#442 » by Ranma » Fri Apr 15, 2016 4:36 am

Seager tends to struggle when he elevated to a new level in the minors before busting out, but that has not been the case for him in the Majors. Yeah, he's batting lower against lefty but it's still significantly over .300. I was actually perplexed with his movement up and down the lineup before and didn't realize why until you pointed that out. I think this is just a case of Dave and the coaches overthinking things. Seager would be better off settling into a spot instead of moving him around while we try to figure things out with everyone else. I like him higher in the order even if it's as the #2 hitter.

I like what Dave has been doing in packing Puig and Gonzalez in a back-to-back punching combination in the batting order. Hope he sticks with that. With regards to Barnes, it's just a matter of time for him. We've seen what he's capable of. He might be pressing matters given the uncertainty of his spot on the roster, but once he gets more comfortable with his place on the team, I expect him to do really well for us.

The Influence of Ellis

Good eye. I actually thought of that earlier. His framing may be subpar, to say the least, but he does call a good game. I actually expected to see Barnes play more while Grandal was out, but realized how comfortable Maeda and Stripling were with Ellis. Kenta, in particular, stood out to me as needing Ellis to help him acclimate to his new surrounding in the United States.

Completely agree on Seager. Let him stay in the 2 hole. If we see he can't do it against lefties, we have a lot of season left to move him down the order.

Going with Kenley 2 days in a row vs. Arizona and no day off between today and the series with the Giants.
Iffy on this one.

Series Win Over Arizona

Post#445 » by Ranma » Fri Apr 15, 2016 4:53 am

Kenley was lights out while **** was the catalyst in getting us the win tonight. Stripling also had a fine outing; too bad he didn't get the win. Our bullpen is not as scary when Baez doesn't make an appearance.

With the win tonight, the Dodgers take the series from the D-backs, but it also puts us in a 3-way tie with the Giants and Rockies in the NL West since Colorado beat San Francisco earlier.

Hatcher Back from Daddy Duty, Barnes Gets a Bit of the Shaft

Post#446 » by Ranma » Fri Apr 15, 2016 10:49 pm

I'm disappointed to see Barnes back in the minors, but he'll at least get regular at-bats and playing time to keep himself sharp.

Edit: I guess with Jansen unavailable this would explain why we sent Barnes down in order to re-activate Hatcher and keep Liberatore. This is on top of our current struggles with the bullpen.

2nd time we''ve seen Bumgarner this year.

Both times Seager has had a seat for Charlie Culberson.

Looks like Bum has settled in just fine and we're in for a doozy (sp?) tonight.

Giants scouting report says we'll swing at stuff up in the zone with 2 strikes?

Kendrick Sucks at Defense

Post#450 » by Ranma » Sat Apr 16, 2016 2:47 am

Kendrick with another defensive flub this early in the season that, not only prevents us from turning a double play, but also keeps us from even getting an out on that play. He hasn't even played the entirety of this season. What a disgrace on Jackie Robinson Night from the guy who is currently manning his position.

Howie owes me for that man.

That was bullchit.

Made Kershaw throw way more pitches when it looked like he was cruising and was gonna eat 8+ innings tonight without a struggle.

****'s Encore

Post#454 » by Ranma » Sat Apr 16, 2016 2:58 am

After saving Kershaw's--really Kendrick's--bacon with that diving catch in LF to end the inning even though he initially misread the fly ball, **** Hernandez has hit another HR on his 2nd time through the lineup to put the Dodgers back up by 1 run. He's now batting .455. I think we might have found our leadoff hitter.

Holes in the Giants' Defense

Post#457 » by Ranma » Sat Apr 16, 2016 3:22 am

Wow! San Francisco's defense is horrendous all over the field. **** just hit a double with the bases loaded to score 2 more runs. Dodgers are now up 6-1 with runners at 3B and 2B with 1 out.

Another Wild Pitch from Kershaw

Post#459 » by Ranma » Sat Apr 16, 2016 3:52 am

Prior to his joining the team, I was very concerned with Yasmani Grandal's penchant for passed balls. Kershaw threw another wild pitch that scored another run, but Ellis's attempt to field that throw in the dirt was atrocious. He should primarily have been concerned with blocking it instead of trying to catch it or whatever he was doing, which allowed the ball to go through his legs to reach the backstop.
