Orlando got three first round picks for their #1 pick. It's possible that they weren't sold on Webber as the number one guy anyways. And you can't honestly tell me they wouldn't have at least been better off long term with Shaq and Webber vs Shaq and Penny

So the Lakers should have drafted Okafor instead of Russell by your logic. Okafor was considered the Lakers pick over Russell by many in the media. Then the Lakers took a look at Okafor and didn't find him impressive.

You have Randle now. He's a beast in the making. 2015-2016 was really his rookie year and he'll only get better.

The Lakers are horrible at spacing and shooting. Drafting Simmons won't help this. Ingram is by far the most likely choice. We won't know for sure until 1) The Lakers secure one of the top 2 picks and 2) work out these guys. So lets wait until then.

I don't think he is saying that at all, he's saying that like magic with Webber, after workouts we didn't view okafor as the BPA at our pick?

In a way, Im hoping we stay at 2- dont drop or dont rise...let the other team "decide" for us...But with a gun to my head, I think I'd go with Simmons due to sheer upside.

Ingram.

We already have a beast PF in Julius Randle, we need an athletic wing who can shoot the lights out from 3. And that guy is Brandon Ingram.

I'm Australian and I'll be disappointed if we land the first pick and select Simmons.

I just get the feeling he will be just like Exum was in his first season,
Ingrim with Usa college experience and a SF who can shoot the ball along with one of the best rebounding PF in the game almost seems ridiculous to pass on..

Yeah.

I think Ingram is a better FIT but I think Simmons is the best player. I also think he's going to be really good early on, which is what this franchise needs.

Why do you trust Mitch? Didn't he sign Lou Williams and Nick Young, when anyone with half a brain knew they were stupid moves.

Why do you trust West? Nobody actually knows his talent.

Meanwhile, for all you know Jim Buss could be the smartest one in the room.

You really have no idea, do you?

I accredit all good FA moves we make to Mitch, all bad ones to Jim because I fail to find a better explanation. Gut instinct, as well as constantly following the Lakers the last 20 years, is what tells me that I'm right. About West 2.0, too. You may disagree, but to say that I "really have no idea" would be very wrong, pretty rude, and pure speculation. Or is it gut instinct? I guess some have it, some don't, then.

Russell, Clarkson, Randle have been very good picks. I like our recent trend of picking the right ones in the draft. I'd prefer Jim on vacation on draft night as he is not a basketball expert. Others, like Mitch and West 2.0, are. Maybe you can take him?

They traded down

So you think they would've passed on their guy (Hardaway) if there were no trades available?

I don't.

I think they would've gone with Hardaway regardless, and if they didn't, they would've been foolish.

Best player available is not an exact science; there are exceptions.

I say they wouldve taken webber....shaq was so dominant that either guys wouldve fit with him. Gsw gave up alot to orl to get that deal done

Three additional first round picks were included, I think.

For whatever it's worth, both Kupchak and Buss have both gone on record as saying Kupchak has final call on any basketball move.

If true, your whole argument is without merit. If they're lying, you have a valid point.

But why would they both lie?

Kupchak has always been remarkably transparent and truthful. Why lie about having a power he doesn't have?

I believe them. Kupchak, as the grizzled elder, has seniority in that room. If he was diametrically opposed to signing Lou Will and Nick Young, Young and Lou don't get signed.

Not only are you wrong about what you know and don't know, but you're also arrogant and emphatic in your ignorance.

Listen, Ingram is good, but Simmons is a monster. It's still not even a question Simmons is superior.

At the time, Webber was basically a 6'10 Shaq. It took him many, many years to learn how to shoot.

Are you telling me a team with two Shaqs, two guys who can't shoot out of the paint would be better than a team with one Shaq and a uber-dynamic, tall PG who can get him the ball?

You sound like David Kahn ... or someone who doesn't know their history properly.

What made the trade great was that not only did they get the picks, but they also got the best player to make them the best team immediately.

Before the injuries began to mount for Penny, Orlando makes that trade even without the picks.

Like I said, BPA is not an exact science, nothing is, when you think about it.

I cited you an example of how BPA wasn't the best pick for the yeam wiyh the number one pick. That's all.

And Eddie Jones and Kobe Bryant can play together with no problem. Bad example.

Shaq needed a guard who could feed him to be his Robin (second best player), not another guy who plays just like him (Webber, at that time).

You take bpa regardless of fit and hope you get lucky like orl. did with gsw trade. Theres been more bad results from picking fit over bpa. Ask minn fans, took wes over dmc, flynn/rubio over curry...bpa and fit is not congruent, one example doesn't apply to all....its how teams adapt and how they manage the value....so picking simmons as bpa and maybe moving him for value or randle doesn't always equal to bad or worse result as just picking ingram as the better fit

Its simple....picking bpa over fit doesnt always work and vice versa.....from your point you seem to suggest picking for fit will always be best.....which just isnt always true
