He could find a better GM at a swap meet.
Bye bye Beal.

I think Ted is perfectly happy with the hockey team - doesn't give two licks about the Wizards. Now if both teams were doing poorly, then he would have a problem.

Wizards/Ted/Monumental,
In the words of a recent pop song: Say something, I'm giving up on you...

Well, firing Randy was predictable. So the excuses for this year will be injuries and poor coaching - bah, I say. As for injuries, everyone knows that Beal & Nene are injury-prone. Any other Wizards who missed a large number of games were less significant bench players. Wittman is neither the best, nor the worst coach in the league. I have wanted to move on from him, but the problems are bigger than the coach. Any coach of the Wizards would have had difficulty due to roster construction issues: not enough outside shooters who don't hurt you other ways with their deficiencies. Lack of players who can create on their own. No starting caliber stretch-4 for the modern NBA (M.Morris is passable except he doesn't rebound well and he can't shoot 3s, which I would consider prerequisites for a stretch-4.) The Wizards didn't improve, while other teams in the slightly-less-sucky east did.

The Wizards have cap space this offseason - this would be a silver lining, but free agents are not going to be encouraged to come to the Wizards and the GM who has pissed away most of our assets is still in charge of making personnel decisions - this is unacceptable. Grunfeld has drafted horribly outside of no-brainer picks like Wall. I can't believe EG is going to pick the next coach.

There was a post in recent weeks by miller31time (and the sentiment has been repeated by others) about how he has toned down his fandom of the Wizards. This were I am at as well. After being fanatical for the Bullets/Wizards for more than 20 years, I can't remember a time when I was so comfortably numb to this franchise. I still lurk here like the Once-ler, but I am casual about watching Wiz games and have no intention of going to another game until improvements are made in the front office.

Without a doubt, today is the most depressing day for a Wizards fan in many years -- in decades. A sad, sad day.

I understand that internet comments and twitter replies don't exactly show the best in humanity, but feedback is feedback.

You are just bitter that the Wizards won last night keeping you from winning the prediction poll

Get a grip. There is nothing special about this day. Just another in a long line of bad days.

So I saw on BF that Ted was not doing any interviews. There are reporters that cover the Wizards that want to ask some questions about the GM. Ted you are a spineless worm.

Ted Leonsis considers himself to be some sort of leadership guru. Snorf.

Real leaders are accountable. They demand excellence of themselves and their key people (like Grunfeld -- double snorf).

Run and hide, Ted. You coward. You are the exact opposite of a real leader.

Just firing Wittman is meaningless without also firing EG and really cleaning house. Now Wizards fans are staring "more of the same" in the face for several more years. Boo

Some positive spin on this and a general question.
Could it be Ted knows he has to pay EG anyway so he is using him in the meantime for the coaching search while he makes final decisions on FO structure? He may be moving EG to consultant/advisor, Sheppard to President, and they are looking at someone young as GM.

Is there any precedent for that?

Nah, this would make no sense. Why let Grunfeld pick the coach if he's not in charge of basketball operations? Whoever the new guy is -- including Tommy -- would logically want their own guy. Plus, what would make anyone think Grunfeld would do any better hiring the next coach than he has the previous ones?

This is actually a good thing! To have the press writing about the widespread distaste for Ernie will embolden others to speak out. Maybe, just maybe, we can finally get some prolonged "Fire Ernie" chants next season. That will get press. Part of the reason Ernie has lasted so long is that his vocal opponents have been in a small minority. Most people are too beaten down to care. If this gets people to come out of the shadows and gives the media a story to glom onto, Ted will have to give in.

I can't quite get myself to say Thank you Ernie, but I heartily concur with the sentiment of the fans who tried to talk some sense into Ted. 606 losses in 13 seasons.

I can say Thank you to Randy Wittman. His efforts are appreciated. He did a workman-like job for 4 and a half seasons. I can't honestly say the same for Ernie Grunfeld.
