That is silly and you should stop. Embiid's workouts had him looking like a hall of fame center. Maker doesn't have that skill base, you are just making things up. I've seen Maker play full games and he isn't close to dominant against high school comp and lacks fundamentals and awareness

Embiid lacked fundamentals and awareness too. So did Nerlens Noel and WCS. So did Marcus Camby and Tyson Chandler.

Not at the time of those workouts. He was very sound and making advanced moves. Let's not muddy the waters with other prospects, I'm responding to your original post.

I'm not saying he isn't a first round pick. I'm saying that statement was ridiculous. The moves and fluidity he showed during workouts was something out of this world, he even started putting those things together in college, at about the same age as Maker, who hasn't been able to put any type of skill game together at all...again not saying he can't be a good NBA player or that there isn't a chance for him to succeed...but he isn't close to the prospect Embiid.

You're telling me Embiid's highly structured workout answered all his questions about feel for the game and fundamentals?

Well then, prepare for Maker to answer every single question you have about him, lol.

You're putting words in my mouth. Never said that and you're trying to change the argument again.

I've actually seen a lot of this kid and Embiid at the same age.

If you think Maker is a better prospect or even comparable to Embiid than we have to stop this discussion because it's not based on reality.

Maker has potential but is so far away that he's just barely a late first round gamble.

I see Anthony Randolph.

Anthony didn't have Maker's intangibles, and immigrant work ethic.

Are you saying Anthony Randolph had good intangibles and a good work ethic?

Just compare Maker's intangibles and work ethic to Embiid's. Embiid will be lucky to still have any agility left since he blew up to 300+ lbs.

El oh el. Embiid doesn't weigh 300 lbs. That was a joke, right?

Except:
1. That's from 16 months ago
2. It's unclear it was true
3. We've all seen video of him since then and he's been in terrific shape.

Great shape, for a 300 pounder. He's still huge, maybe even bigger than 15 months ago.

Embiid seems like he's trying to pull a Charles Barkley on the Sixers.

Can he bulk up to ~250+ and play full time center, and if so how does he project defensively at that spot?

And also where do you guys see him going in this draft? Like what would be the highest you could see him going?

The only problem with being over 7' tall is unless you weigh 270+, shorter players have a major leverage advantage, especially the strong ones.

Being tall means less leverage, and a harder time getting low and getting better leverage.

Both Gobert and Porzingis will probably struggle against strong centers for most all of their careers.
Even Garnett always had problems getting leverage on centers, even at his peak of 250 lbs.

It doesn't mean these 7'+ lanky guys can't be great defensive centers, it's just that they'll probably always lose a few individual matchups against shorter, stronger guys with a leverage advantage.

Jared Sullinger, at 6'8 (after vertebrae removal) is a surprisingly effective center because nobody in the league is better at using leverage for positioning.

Maker has a lot of fight in him, but he has skinny legs like Porzingis and Gobert. He'll be plenty strong and long enough to be an overall effective defensive center, but there will always be matchups he gets dominated by.

I give Embiid a hard time for being 300+ lbs, but if he has any agility and endurance left at all, he'll be a pretty much unstoppable force, and he'll never get outmuscled by other centers.

The only problem would be if he moves like Okafor in help defense, and if he gets beat up and down the floor by skinnier guys.

Maybe 290. Dwight Howard is around 280 and Embiid is 2" taller with a similar build now.
