2016 NBA Playoffs Thread

Post#1 » by gravytrain24 » Mon Apr 18, 2016 1:41 am

Although the wiz didn't make the playoffs, i thought there should be a common thread that we can wizard our thoughts about this years playoffs. Any game, any series, any time. So id like to start by half applauding Van Gundy for saying Lebron gets away with everything in the playoffs. If any one knows that it us, stupid "crab dribble". Also i was very happy to see Toronto learning how win game 1's in the playoffs.

I am surprised at how lopsided most of these games have been. Houston with Harden and Howard can't be this bad...can they?? Howard and Harden have to be able to win you a game or 2 in the playoffs...right? Howard is not even a shell a of himself- Howard is terrible.

Apart from Kemba and Batun were the only ones that came to play. Kemba with one assist because no one else could shoot yesterday. Lin was a defensive mess and he seemed tentative the entire game. Charlotte was so good this year there is no way I can imagine that they don't make this a series but Iso-Joe, Old Wade and Whiteside just played well while Deng went off- I will also say that Jefferson can score on Whiteside but the problem is he won't score enough to overcome Whitesides contribution.

Toronto- Lowery and Derozen both looked overwhelmed. Lowery looked nervous and frantic. It may have served Toronto to start on the road because the weight of the country (and Drake) seems to be too heavy for these guys to carry. It was good to see that Lowery has lost weight and is managing his body fat (you know ...managing his body like a professional athlete).

So Cleveland barely beats Detriot while Lebron, Love and Uncle Drew play well....hmmm I would suspect that they may have trouble getting through Miami-

Watching DeRozan reminded me of how much a post season gamer Brad is.

Yup, I thought of the Wizards too. It seems like it is just an accomplishment to play LeBron/Cavs close because of how many calls LeBron gets away with in the postseason.

Toronto going out like b*tches again is pretty hilarious. They have to fire Casey and do something with that roster in the offseason.

Beyond Toronto, watching the East in general makes me it even more disappointing that the Wizards blew this season. Indy's in a great spot, assuming Paul George can maintain this level of play for 4-6 weeks. He's going to be the best individual player on the floor in pretty much every matchup until they get to Cleveland in the ECF (which I wouldn't be surprised if they got there).

A really tough call. I thought this season had two of the most gifted, unique defenders of all time. In any normal season, Draymond Green could have easily been DOPY, but this time around, Kawhi had just as much of an argument.

Toronto doesn't have an answer for PG, DeRozan, Ross, Patterson even Carroll are all average defenders. He'll be able to get any shot he wants unless they double team him from the tip but that won't happen. Ellis can get buckets too. I have a feeling Indiana wins in 6.

PG's teammates are complete trash though--it's truly an embarrassment if the Raps lose the series

If OKC can't get past Dallas, IDK man...I can't see Durant staying if this is their peak.
Bickerstaff: who's up for kickball?!!
Ed Wood: Only if it's the no-pants variety.

Agreed! But it's bad because Durant and Westbrook are really selfish until the last 2 minutes of the game...then it's YOU TAKE IT...NO I GOT IT...OR IM OPEN...they look confused.

Harden Playing Optional Defense

Howard is only getting Optional Rebounds

GoldenState are playing like we are not just Curry's supporting cast...GS playing like they trying to prove that Curry is a team mate but the team is a great team with or without Curry. Impressive ...so far.

How on earth in the name of Ernie Grunfeld...

Dallas won over OKC with major contributions by a true rookie, Justin Anderson, and another bargain basement first-year big man, Salah Mejri. They combined for 18 points out of 85 for Dallas in a defensive battle.
Tre Johnson is the future of the Wizards.

Complete gloating disclosure, I really liked Justin Anderson pre-draft and thought he would fit-in well here. Dallas sent him to the D League, then had him ready by the playoffs.

Remember back when Beal was in his 2nd season and we all hoped he'd pan out to be roughly as good as Klay Thompson?

Well, Klay just scored 34 points in 37 minutes in a playoff game without Curry drawing attention. He made 15 of 16 free throws! Has Beal ever even shot 10 free throws in a game?

(EDIT: I just checked. The most free throws Beal has ever shot in a game is 11 and the most free throws he has ever made is 10. Beal has only exceeded 34 points once in his 4 seasons.)

I always felt that Beal's contract should probably be what Klay got, but at this point, after you said that, I don't even think Beal deserves Klay money. It's not just the injuries, it's that Beal really doesn't do anything that makes you go wow: i.e. doesn't get to the line, doesn't shoot enough 3s, etc

Thompson did it 6 times in his first 4 seasons. I'm guessing Bradley Beal's agent would argue that Thompson never scored 34 points before he turned 23 like Beal has done, but yeah Beal has a long way to go to become a complete player like Klay. I don't see Beal scoring 39 points in a quarter like Klay anytime soon.
