The Coach Bud coaching tree spreads. My congrats to coach Atkinson, but it sucks losing another top assistant.

Thoughts?

Perfect situation for him. The Nets know they are 2 years away from being 2 years away basically. So he shouldn't be on any kind of short leash right out the gate. Nets have a strong foundation going forward with Sean Marks and Kenny Atkinson. The Coach Bud coaching tree begins!

If only we could have finagled a 1st rounder for him like Doc Rivers got, it's hard to imagine a Nets transaction where they didn't give up a draft pick. Yes I'm still salty that they made the playoffs last year while gifting Boston this year.

The loss doesn't bother me as much as Quin leaving though, Kenny is great at player development but I don't think he brought the same combination of Xs/Os and command presence as Quin does. He will be excellent for the direction that Brooklyn is going though as I hope they take the path of building a team from the ground up rather than just trying to buy a ring. Eager to see what president Bud does with his staff, I believe Darvin is next up for a promotion to top assistant in terms of continuity but I wonder who else he finds to fill out his bench.

Yeah I think he should fulfil a Brett Brown type role for Brooklyn.

Also, I gotta say you have the most unique combination of teams that you support haha.

I look forward to seeing how the Nets progress under Coach Atkinson's guiding them.
I wish him the Nets the best.

I am truly excited for this new opportunity for Coach Atkinson. He's been highly regarded for a long time and this seems like a good fit up in Brooklyn.

I do, however, lament losing another top assistant. Especially the guy who spearheaded so much of our player development.

Should we expect a drop off in efficacy regarding the development of unheralded swingmen we consistently turn into rotation caliber players? (Cartier Martin, DMC, Bazemore, Lamar Patterson)

What can I say, as an 8 year old I picked a bunch of names out of a hat marked "cursed teams". Said to myself "what could possibly be so bad?"

The coaching staff defections continue as reports surface that Video Coordinator (and fellow asst coach) Jordan Ott is headed to Brooklyn with Kenny.

Read on Twitter

J.O. is Jordan Ott. He has served as the Hawks’ video coordinator for the past three seasons. While a deal is not officially in place, it is headed in that direction.

Atkinson and Ott have worked together as part of the Hawks’ Las Vegas Summer League coaching staff. Also, Ott worked with Atkinson when he coached the Dominican Republic National Team last summer.
Here

Thoughts on #DoTheRightThing:

Could Teague be lobbying to be traded to Brooklyn along with these coaches?
Do they have anything we'd be interested in?

Or is this just a lazy, random reference to the Spike Lee classic also set in Brooklyn?

An incredibly optimistic piece on Brooklyn's fortunes under their new head coach...written by a Celtics team writer!!!

Nets Look Like Hawks Under Atkinson's Leadership

Atkinson was an assistant coach in Atlanta under Mike Budenholzer for the past four seasons. New head coaches typically bring many of the culture traits and schematic beliefs along with them from their previous stop. Atkinson is no exception.

He saw a recipe for success in Atlanta, one that led to four postseason berths during his four seasons there. He is attempting to transfer that success to his new team in Brooklyn by bringing many of the same beliefs along with him.

As Isaiah Thomas put it at Thursday morning’s shootaround, “They look a lot like the Atlanta Hawks with their schemes and stuff at the offensive end.”

Atkinson is expected to impact the Nets the most [with his] player development. Atkinson was credited as being the leader of Atlanta’s player development over the past four seasons, and players such as Jeff Teague, Kent Bazemore and Kyle Korver lauded his individual work with them. Horford, too, says that he became a better player directly as a result of his relationship with Atkinson.

These Nets are nowhere near the level where the Hawks have been in recent years. However, with Atkinson on board, it wouldn’t surprise many if Brooklyn turns things around in the foreseeable future.
