Re: "WCIHAoTDP?" - 2016 Draft Thread P.2
I think Ainge will almost definitely trade the pick if he doesn't land in the top 2. He needs to start consolidating and there is little reason to add three more first round draft picks to this roster. Bender could be the exception if he has a terrific workout, but I really think Ainge will take any somewhat reasonable offer to acquire more of a star type player. Personally, I would love to draft Bender and then trade the 2018 draft pick back to Brooklyn for Lopez. I don't love Lopez as a player, but I think Stevens could get the best out of him (and his good assets are exceptionally good).

Re: "WCIHAoTDP?" - 2016 Draft Thread P.2
It must be tempting for Ainge to trade for some veteran players or sign some veteran players. Marc Gasol and Conley are two guys that come to mind. The other route of building through the draft is the route that has the potential to aviod the "what could have been" scenarios.
I could see a trade for Gasol and Randolph, as Memphis begins their rebuild. Sign Conley to a three year deal or something.
Have a potential lineup of:
Conley/Thomas
Bradley/Smart
Crowder/Turner
Olynyk/Mickey
Gasol/Randolph
I don't think it would cost a lot of assets to make that happen, and you'd still be able to build through the draft. This is just one scenario where Ainge can add talent and build depth.

How many here want Ainge to keep all the picks? U know who u are. Just admit it. ...
I would trade all but the first second rounder for cash considerations. Then, I would trade our pick and Mavs pick for a player, or a future pick. I only want one rookie on team next year.

It's hard to get a decent "player" for picks. ATL got Hardaway Jr. for their #16 pick last year. Hardaway Jr. is junk. I'm much more willing to take a flyer on 4 years of cost controlled rookie goodness than taking on some young vet with "potential". The days of getting George Hill for #15 are behind us I think.
I think it's damn near impossible to take on 8 rookies from one draft, so obviously some combination of stashing &/or culling will be needed. At the same time, I'd be looking at the young talent already on this team as an additional way to clear room. You can only have 4-5 developmental spots on a team.
I'd be looking at what I can get using Rozier, Young, and Mickey as bait (if not at the draft then later in the summer). Use the #16/#23 as a sweetener. Make Smart available in the right deal (for an established all-star). Then you'll have the ability to go BPA with the Nets pick and whatever picks are leftover.
If we sell these picks instead of stashing them I'm a gonna be quite pissed. Danny has been a jedi about exploiting almost every potential market inefficiency out there EXCEPT draft and stash. This is the year to change that.
In the end, we need top-end talent and even though the odds get steep outside the lottery I'd rather use all the bullets in my gun instead of reserving space for the picks from the last 2 years, guys who all look like some form of role player. Let's not let the presence of guys like Rozier and Smart dissuade us for fully investigating the potential of combo guards like Dunn, Murray and Baldwin (among many many others).
The leaks are real...the news is fake.

Every 2nd rd pick should be a stash. And to clear some precious space cut bait with Young already. Any or all 1st rd picks should be traded for a player that gets us in the room with Durant.

Lopez may not be worth his current salary...let alone a top 5 pick in a loaded 2017 draft.

I wrote 2018 and it's far from a guarantee that will be a top 5 pick. Keep in mind a Lopez trade would enhance our 2017 pick swap.

Zhou is absolutely trash. Just saying
For my money, i'd take Zhou Qi 100 times over Thon Maker. This notion that Maker can shoot is complete tripe. He can make a shot, but he is not shooter. Seen a ton of this guy, love his intellect, but I'm not banking on his game with a first round pick - no the way.

I'd be all about trading with Minny for the 5 pick(if they get it) and turning Smart +16 for Dunn. Marcus Smart's defensive superiority is marginal relative to the vast offensive discrepancy between the two.
However, I have a strong suspicion(which I will try to verify) that Boston will pitch Chicago a Smart + 16 + 23 deal for Butler on or before the draft. There's only 1 player they'll give up that BKN pick for and he'll require Jae Crowder, so i'm doubting there resolve in doing it.

I couldn't agre more Bill. Especially if they view thomas as more of a sixth man type.
Dunn running the point with Butler at shooting guard would be a great offensive guard rotation.

My mistake...yeah, that makes much more sense. If they do that deal then 2017 would almost assuredly be top 5.

According to last reports, he is open for draft-and-stash option. Its still unclear, so i guess we wont know until we see who drafts him.Agent was pushing for both croatian bigs to move straight to NBA.

I wont trade my picks unless I can get in the top2 with some of them, and I dont with the lotto of course.
Just stash players, this class is fairly even and difficult to predict, if you have more picks you have a better shot of hitting, trading up for a guy makes no much sense since this class doesnt really have those guys that teams are going to be stealing from you.
stash in Europe and stash in the dleague, it is easy.

I say Ainge tries to cash in this years 2016, next years 2017 and 2018's Brooklyn draft picks plus a few good players minus AB, IT and Crowder for Anthony Davis. Then try n sign Kevin Durant after they pull off that major trade, then resign Turner.

Why didn't we draft Justin Anderson, I really wanted Danny to draft him. Great physic, good defener, athletic, can shoot the 3, and he's a SF!!! And we needed SF! Instead a combo guard and another SG...
Good assessment:

As I've been saying all season long, if the Celtics get a Top 2 pick on draft lottery day, Anthony Davis suddenly gets on the radar. Still would be a long-shot, but you will hear it.
Ainge could start at Simmons (#1), Smart, Hunter, Amir (team option) Mavs16, 17pick swap, bk18....Not that NOLA would be necessarily LOOKING to move Davis, but how could they ignore that package?
IT-Bradley-Durant-Davis-Horford/Whiteside or to a lesser extend Sully

Maybe I just haven't been reading closely enough but one guy I haven't seen much talk about is Jamal Murray. He's a great shooter, young, good size for a SG, athletic. Seems he is getting overlooked, and would likely be better than Buddy Hield if he played 4 years in college. I bet he ends up in the 3-6 range.

yep, he, RHJ or Portis were my hopes with 16 last year. OH well...whats done is done, and will be good to see Rozier get a little run tonight.
I expect we will draft Dejounte Murray at 16 this year.

He has been projected as a top 6 prospect all year by most draft sites.
Murray isn't the ball handler some thought he would be this year, but he was great as an off ball shooter. Running around picks and shooting or attacking the closeout, he did it extremely well for his age. His defense is questionable though, so top 6/7 seems fair to me.
