Yes but other teams will have a two week head start on the wooing process. Maybe they'll wait, maybe they won't.

Rockets will be done either on April 24 or April 27. NBA Combine is May 10-15. So while it's possible to fire JBB and hire a coach inbetween that time, it's still a pretty short window when there are many other teams looking to hire a coach.

Morey has on going conversations with agents throughout the season. I'm sure if an interested candidate feels the opportunity exists they will wait until it's official. I just want the franchise to move forward not laterally or backward. No retreads.

Ok so Brooklyn Nets have hired ATL Hawks assistant Kenny Atkinson as their new head coach. That's good for Houston.

Looks like JVG is on top of the Rockets' list:

(last three paragraphs)
And apparently he isn't necessarily looking for team control like Thibs is, which is a good sign for Houston.

You can't see it, but I'm dancing in joy right now.

Kind of makes typing difficult, but don't care - too happy!

My my... I will never forget the time when we had the Greek McGrady and T-Suck on this team. And Head as the Rockets 3-point specialist.

But he has had his finger on the pulse of the game the entire time he's been out of coaching.

I'd wager that Chris Finch will still have a position here. JBB as well, although I could see him moving on rather than going back to an assistant's role.

Didn't JVG have Patrick Ewing as an assistant?

I do agree that he would need to assemble a good cast of assistant coaches, and I have no reason to believe that he could not.

Yeah and JVG is a very smart guy. Even if he is lost at first I'm sure he can catch up quick

So Walton doesn't want to be a head coach just yet and TT wants total control of a franchise so we should probably cross both of the list.

Ewing is only assistant because of Yao. Thibodeau was JVG's top assistant.
It won't be JVG.

He doesn't like Les and has problems with him. Doesn't trust him. Sees that as critical.

Walton is smart. He knows he can't be successful with a crappy team like Knicks. He is waiting for the right moment for the right team.

T-Wolves is interviewing Mark Jackson. That's good. We still have chance at Thibo

It's now been reported by Stein that Thibs wasn't the one pushing for power in the TWolves franchise, they are pushing for it. Doesn't mean it doesn't help their pursuit of him though

Phoenix keeping earl Watson as head coach. What if rockets want to keep JBB as head coach too?

we don't have first round pick this year that mean Morey can't trade 2017 first round pick right?

No, the Rockets cannot trade the 2017 pick unless they acquire and use another one this upcoming draft.

And I really don't think that JBB is the long-term plan for the Rockets as a Head Coach. Maybe if they were blowing up the entire team and only keeping Capela, Dekker & KJ; but I don't think that is happening.

I really think JVG is our only viable option here. Maybe Brooks but that's about it.
