Walton won't coach the Knicks but he will talk to the Kings?
Harden is still a work-in-progress. He can score, but he can't help his teammate that much - Yao Ming

I can see a young coach still earning his stripes wanting to avoid a situation like the Knicks. Each and every single move would be under the microscope and it could unfairly tarnish their reputation.
Houston is a pretty media friendly city. New York City is not. Could you imagine JBB trying to do his job under those lights?

CF famous insider said JVG will not coach the Rockets because of bad relationship with Les
JVG will not work in today's NBA
remember his defense strategy is packed the lane and force you to shoot 3
today's NBA is full of players that can shoot 3

Yeah I am well aware of that. But you can't really trust on the source because like I said in the general boards thread, JVG will never talk about any coaching position that is currently filled. Unlike Mark Jackson, he's never talked down on any active coach in this league. So I doubt that we will hear from him unless the front office take this matter more seriously by first announcing the vacancy of the position, i.e.: firing JBB. But I suppose all of this will have to wait until the Rockets lose their next 2 games
I have no doubt, that he will be a good coach for the Rockets. If you watch his commentaries, he's actually a smart guy and I think he will adapt to the stream of changes that the NBA is leaning to. Pretty sure that his current job as an analyst has enhanced his understanding of the game, and the strategies implemented by other teams

remember JVG is pretty stubborn too
out of JVG, Adelman, McHale, and JBB
McHale seems like the one easier to adopt
how much Morey has on coaching decision is still a myth
but i want a coach that is not afraid to sit anyone down if they play bad (including your star player)

Re: Head Coach
If/when JVG comes back I'm going to assume that he will have a bigger say in personnel than previous coaches.
Obviously that will still be Morey's responsibility to acquire talent, but I think that JVG would be in the discussion.

I have a feeling even McHale had a slight input. You really think Morey on his own would trade for Brewer and overpay to keep him?
Nah, McHale loved Brewer and vice versa (Drafted him when he had a FO job in MIN and coached him while there as well)

If I were a young coach I'd rather deal with the N.Y. media than coach Cousins, Rondo and Gay plus the Kings crazy ownership and upper management.

Dunno about brewer but we can blame Royce white on McHale for sure.

/whispers
I liked the Royce White pick
Imagine if he didn't end up being a little off! He was sooooo good. He had a lot of Draymond Green in him.
It was worth the risk for a team that had 3 first round picks that year (I think) and a pick from the previous year coming over (DMo). Having that many pick usually lets teams just swing for the fences

Re: Head Coach
Wasn't Morey after Brewer before McHale got here?
I remember being baffled by the interest for a long time; and then last season I figured that Morey knew something we didn't know all along. Kind of like giving up a proven starter like Alston for some scrub who couldn't get off of the bench in Memphis in Lowry.
It's all a jumble of memories for me at this point. Thinking about the Rockets just hurts my brain after this season.

texasholdem wrote::D Anyone willing to give Clyde a shot at coaching? I know he was a disaster at UH but that was shortly after his retirement and there were recruiting issues. If he was able to get Yao on the cougars things might have been different. Anyway, it's probably a bad idea but maybe he would know how to get through to harden. Would rather have drexler as head coach before Mark Jackson or Derek Fisher that's for sure.
Clyde? He doesn't even know what he was saying most of the time. You want him to coach? I rather they rehire McHale.
