Re: Crazy thought
I *hate* the FT thing as much as anybody, but I still think Dre has a ton of untapped potential. It'll be a few more years before I throw the Kwame/Darko towel in.
That said... I'd be hard pressed to pass on Cousins at this point, issues and all. And I've never taken that stance before. I'm pretty big on character and not a fan of drama... but if that drama is a result of a guy wanting to win I can deal with that (Sheed). IF I saw Dre giving 100% every single night I wouldn't be in this spot - I'd take all his warts, blemishes and growing pains in stride. But he has to want it and that is the one thing that worries me.
I know some people chalk that up to maturity and hope he'll grow out of it, but I'm not sure how much I buy that argument. Some people are driven and some people are not. You can develop routines, habits and professionalism... but the underlying desire has still gotta be there.

And I don't think for one second DMC has true desire to win. That guy IMO has paycheck player written all over him and always has.

This thread is mind boggling to me. Our franchise player just lead us to the playoffs for the first time in 7 seasons (in his first season as the franchise player), and there is more talk about trading him than who we should get next to build around him. Why is this even a topic at all?

I feel bad spoiling it for you because you obviously missed the game tonight, but Drummond shot 4 of 16 from the FT line tonight. Franchise players aren't really suppose to handicap their team like that.

You obviously didn't watch the game, as he was also 8-13 FG for 20 pts. His FTs had no effect on the outcome of that game. His FGs were the main thing keeping them in it in the first place, while Harris/Morris were 5-21 FG combined. That was what cost the game. .
You don't trade franchise players over FTs. It's comical to even entertain the thought.

He played a good game 1 and a very good game2.
It's nice to see him focused.

It's not like everyone thinks he has no value - he's obviously an All Star and can dominate in many aspects of the game. But when you weigh in his occasional lack of intensity, and the free throws (which not only limits the points but also limits his minutes), would we be better if we made a trade? And obviously, before you can answer that, we have to know what those trades would be. And the liklihood of any of those happening is close to zero, since most GMs tend to be risk-averse. It is much easier to keep your job with a slow rebuild, but if a franchise player trade f--ks up your team, you just lost your job. But, since this is RealGM and we can play around, would any trade be worth considering? I would consider a few:
Straightup 1-1 trades:
Curry
Durant
Davis
Towns
Trades that need some filler (maybe a lottery pick):
Cousins
Porzingis
Other possibilities:
Starters plus multiple lottery picks (max allowed is 3, and every other year). So if a crappy lottery team (Philly, Lakers, Brooklyn, etc) offered us their unprotected first for 2016, 2018, 2020, plus a desirable starter, I would have to consider something like that as well.

I was with you on the first part. If you can get Curry/Durant, yeah you have to consider anything that could make you better and possibly win you a championship, and yeah it's fun to speculate. But when you start talking about having to consider offers of lotto picks, I just don't know where you're coming from there. That's talking like we're the 2012 Magic and already peaked and it's time to start rebuilding now, get the best offer we can and start over. Which makes no sense to me as we're just starting our run and he's not even in his prime yet. So I don't understand why people are even thinking that way, but everyone is entitled to their opinion.
For what it's worth, sounds like they are changing the foul rule:

I actually agree with you. The possibilities I laid out were less and less appealing down the list, and agree that future lottery picks are not a guarantee of getting good players. But high lottery picks are pretty exciting to own.
And when Silver talks about making changes, I hope it is something along the lines of us getting the option to shoot the free throws or just take the ball out of bounds. But it maybe just a little tweek, like not jumping on a player's back during your own free throws (see Silver's comment's here http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/14719848/adam-silver-says-changes-needed-hack-player-rule). But of course we keep Drummond and don't ever think about tradiing him if they really fix the hack rule. He'll be a 30/20/5 guy every night

I think that is the best solution. Just give teams the option to decline the fouls and problem solved.
