What happened to the defense??

Post#1 » by Maker_84 » Thu Apr 21, 2016 3:02 pm

I know all season the defense wasn't too good but in this series it's been extra bad and at times non-existent. I've never seen so many open looks from 3 that the Cavaliers have had in these two games.

Stan has been taken to the woodshed by Tyronn freaking Lue on coaching and adjustments so far in this series. We need to stop doubling players and play everyone straight up and take our chances because they are absolutely KILLING US from behind the arc. You never see the Cavaliers doubling any of our players and leaving people open :banghead:

Playing a prolific offense with shooters everywhere that allows them to spread the court and move the ball is what happened. Which is exactly how a lot of people have been clamoring that we need play, because you're not going to beat teams like this with just defense in todays game. You need an offense that can match them in addition to good defense. And when you can move the ball like that, it becomes part of your defense, as it tires/demoralizes the opponent making them easier to guard on the other end.

It's why they changed coaches from a defensive guy in Blatt to offense with Lue, so they could keep up with the Warriors, after GS showed them they can't beat them with just defense.

We are going to need to make the same adjustment if we eventually want to beat the Cavs and get to the Finals. Not talking about changing coaches, but getting the requisite shooters needed to play that way too.

These two teams have been evenly matched for 6-1/2 of 8 quarters. Watch the games.

Cavs are scoring like 2 points more per game than they did in the regular season, we're giving up ~4 more. Not that big of a difference, and that includes a historic 3 point shooting night last night (partially our fault sure).

But actually it's probably because you hurt the Pistons feelings.

I believe the Pistons are somewhere near the middle of defensive rating... you can blame the previous Piston championship teams for both rule changes that makes it hard to impede progress without contact.

It might have something to do with playing against one of the best players of all time

Yeah, because a playoff team has never played more than 3 quarters.

Tell your mom that woodshed time is over.
