But Wait - There's More
For the Wolves, it's not just about Tom Thibodeau. It's about Kevin Garnett.

There's a lot of talk about how Doc River's first championship came off of Danny Ainge, Thibodeau and the farm trade for KG. Next season, the Clippers could be facing the Timberwolves in the 1st round of the playoffs to determine once and for all if Doc is a championship coach or a lame duck coach who was dealt a prepared hand.

More Pop, Less Doc
QRich3 wrote:That's gonna be the difference between him and Doc's gigs. Doc could've worked just fine as coach + POBO if he had hired a very good GM like Stan did, like Pop had, like Thibs is about to hire (his Knicks period notwithstanding). Instead, he hired a yes man in Dave Wohl and this is where we are.
Glad for the T-Wolves, they're gonna be hard to deal with for the next decade.
I concur, but we'll see if Thibs is more Popovich or Doc in listening and working with his GM. Since moving on from David Kahn, I've been encouraged with Minnesota's progress. This could put the T-wolves ahead of us in the not-too-distant future if Thibodeau avoids the pitfalls Doc haphazardly falls into.

Durant To The Wizards Confirmed - Starting With Scott Brooks As Coach
[tweet]https://twitter.com/SportsCenter/status/723269280935084032[/tweet]
All Griffin for Durant talks are officially dead.
Durant's best years all happened under Brooks (with a Finals appearance to boot). OKC will be listening to Washington more, regardless of Doc's offers.
Griffin is not out of the woods yet as far as trade talks are concerned. There is still the matter of The Brotherhood, but only if the Clippers have another 2nd round exit. Clippers must beat the Warriors to keep Griffin in Clipperland.

Not Changing a Thing
While the arrival of Brooks might make Washington a more appealing destination if he really does want to play for his hometown team, the Clippers still offer a more attractive possibility if his priority is to win to help build up his legacy. It's why the Golden State Warriors are considered the favorite if he were to leave Oklahoma City as an unrestricted free agent. Scott Brooks couldn't get the Thunder over the hump with Harden along with Durant, Westbrook, and Ibaka so his joining the Wizards isn't exactly an earth-shattering event.

good move by wizards, even though he was unimpressive as a top tier x's and o's guy. i'm sure he'll have worked on that to be better this time around, though.

Re: Around the NBA II
I always liked Brooks and thought his problems with X's & O's were greatly exaggerated by the media, if not made up completely. The guy is a really good defensive coach, and people sometimes forget that is half the game. Then on offense, yeah the Thunder run simple stuff most of the time, but they still do with Donovan. I think it's more of a case of Westbrook and Durant being too deliberate in the way they run plays than the coaches not being able to draw misdirection type of stuff.
But like the Thunder beat writer dude said, if Durant wanted to be coached by Brooks, he'd still be coaching in OKC, so hold your storylines yet.

Re: Around the NBA II
i'm sure it was exaggerated but from my own personal viewing experience i was always pretty meh on what they did on offense. that said i do think there might have been some factor in KD/westbrook doing their own thing that perhaps it wasn't really brooks's fault.
we'll see how it goes with washington, i think he's a good guy and deserves another shot.

Flashbacks To 2013
The first round exit to the Grizzlies in 2013 had another feature besides missing out on a sweep: a possible player out for the playoffs. Look at this:

[tweet]https://twitter.com/World_Wide_Wob/status/724341883502223371[/tweet]
I don't remember who got hurt in the 2013 NBA Playoffs, but indeed, there was an injury to a player on another team that would have given the Clippers an incentive to get into the 2nd round: an easier opponent. Last night, they allowed the Blazers to get a win in the series. Could history repeat itself?
Let's hope the Clippers don't get caught in the trap of overlooking past their current opponent.

he still walked off in his own. of course do not wish any career threatening injuries to anybody but would be nice if he needs a couple of weeks off under doctor's orders.

Westbrook was out for the Thunder in the WC Semis, but Blake Griffin also suffered a serious ankle injury after practice in game 4 of that series, which was part of why the Clippers were a one man show over the last two games.
