Some of the things you claim are completely false. This is one of those things. They're different types of players and I honestly think this post is racist. "Two guys are black, they look like they play alike."

He can be one. An elite rim protector has elite length (CHECK), an elite vertical for a big (CHECK), is quick off his feet (CHECK) and strength to anchor the paint (NOT CHECK). He can be one in the mold of Nerlens Noel, but not in the mold of DeAndre Jordan or Dwight Howard.

Of course, you can't actually name something they're so different at, all you can do is pull the racism card out of your arm pit.

Re: Thon Maker
Turner and Maker are both face up players, with limited post games. Maker is the better ball handler and slightly better athlete, with more height and length. Turner has a more deadly jump shot and a slightly better feel for the game.
Both were irrationally assumed to not be NBA ready, with overblown questions about strength.
Both were viewed as underdeveloped centers, rather than outstanding power forward prospects.
Both are intelligent, hard working kids with the kind of intangibles that greatly limit their bust factor.
Both had/have irrational health questions about how well their bodies will hold up in the League.
But yeah, call me a racist because you can't think of anything of substance to say.

Re: Thon Maker
13 pages on a guy that probably will be in the D league for 2 years and a great chance of being Perry Jones 2.0. A tall guy with all the hype in the world as a Soph and Junior in high school then continued to get exposed and nose dive since. Don't get me wrong he has potential (just like Jones) but much more likely he ends up never being heard of again in 3 years than turning into anything close to an all star

I don't think there is any need to expand. Against quality competition he doesn't protect the rim at an elite level. I don't think I've ever seen him lock down another prospect or completely dominate a game by contesting/blocking shots. He's not dominant in any aspect defensively. He could be, though I highly doubt it. Even his athletic tools are overrated to this point. I routinely see people call him an elite athlete but he's not super explosive or crazy fluid. He's a remarkably long big who's coordinated and moves well pretty well for his size. That's about it.

Sounds like you've seen him play a lot. How many games would you say that covers?

There's a lot of guys blowing smoke out of their butts. I fully admit I only see what's out there on youtube. That's why I'm trying to see who's opinions I can count on. Ambrose sounds like he has a strong opinion, so I want to know what he's basing that off of.
How about you? You seen more than what's on youtube?

I know youre not asking me but I have seen 10+ games. I know thats not that much but almost everyone of those games I came away thinking the same thing you read by the main college recruit analysts. Hes not a great athlete in game, hes solid but nothing to be super wowed about. Hes not an elite rim protector even with his length and athleticism. His jumper is not a real weapon, he does not handle physical play well at all. Hes one of those players that in an open gym you think my god this guy has tremendous potential, then you see him actually play the game and you forget hes playing or you ask yourself "no way thats the same guy". On paper hes a top 10 pick, in reality hes a late 1st rounder with high high risk with solid reward. Thats why I compare him to Perry Jones, on paper and in a open gym you go wow this guys has all the things you want, but for some reason just doesnt know how to put it together in games. Perry Jones was a better prospect and he just got cut by his D league team

High teens/low twenties would be my guess.

Yeah, because 95% of NBA players are white, so we compare guys just for being black.

Re: Thon Maker
@7'1" with athleticism how could teams pass on him? Especially, after teams slept on Rudy Gobert and Antetokounmpo in their respective drafts.
7' ftr Dragan Bender, 6'10" Domantas Sabonis, 6'11" Skal Labissiere, and 7'ftr Jakob Poeltl all are ranked above Thon Maker, and there's no way anyone can clearly predict these players will be any better than Maker as a pro.

Yes they can, because those players you named have actually shown something (some of them more, some of them less) against actual competition in competitive basketball games unlike Maker who never played versus serious opponents in his life in non exhibition games.

If it's body of work you're looking for, don't look for these teenagers one yr removed from H.S. prom to have much of a body of work. With the right team, he can develop into a solid pro. He's young, tall and can shoot and dribble the ball. Does he have heart? We won't know until he plays against elite competition, but the same could be said for those projected to be lottery picks.
